Here’s another reason to buy the Yamaha MT-09

KUALA LUMPUR: In November last year, Hong Leong Motor added a new performance model to its line-up, the super stylish and powerful Yamaha MT-09 Hyper Naked.

The company claims it to be the “most exciting Hyper Naked bike to date,” and we can’t help but agree.

Further adding to its long list of merits is the Red Dot Design Awards 2022 trophy that it recently grabbed with its siblings, the Yamaha R7 and Yamaha Superjet jetski. Thus making the 2022 award season all the more exciting for the company as it’s Yamaha’s 11th consecutive winning year at Red Dot Awards.

What makes the Yamaha MT-09 win so special to Malaysia?

It is the only Red Dot Awards winning offering from Yamaha this year available in the Malaysian market. Thus, giving prospective buyers all the more reasons to buy it at once without looking at the competitors like the Triumph Street Triple and the KTM Duke 790. However, given each bike’s fan bases, it’s hard to argue.

Other than the recent award, what makes the MT-09 so desirable?

The Yamaha MT-09 is one of the brand’s staple offerings, and only a few months back, it underwent a facelift (we got the revised model too). As a result, the new MT-09 brings a lot to the table, be it design, power, features, and more. We’ll be elaborating on each point below.

Quick & powerful

The new MT-09 is powered by the newly developed 889 cc liquid-cooled 3-Cyl mill that, apart from being lighter, powerful, and quicker, is known to offer more torque at lower RPM. Further, its lightweight design and improved combustion efficiency combo improve fuel efficiency.

Better handling & stability

MT-09’s bodywork extensively incorporates weight-reducing technologies, thus making it lighter than its predecessor. It also enables the motorcycle to provide better handling performance, straight-line stability, and longitudinal, lateral, and torsional balance.

Newly developed electronics

The MT-09 benefits from the newly developed 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that comprises three-rider aids - front-wheel Lift control system, Traction Control System, and Slide Control System. The three systems work in harmony and help the rider optimise the bike’s full potential.

Further being 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the IMU in the YZF-R1, the sophisticated setup gives the rider full control over the bike under varying road and weather conditions.

Appealing design

There is no doubt that the facelifted MT-09 stimulates the senses of the onlooker. All its elements, be it the compact B-functional LED headlight or the LED taillight with a symbolic ‘Y’ Icon, emit a sense of power.

Advanced tech

Yamaha has equipped the MT-09 with a full-colour 3.5-inch TFT Display with a bar-type Tachometer and multi-functional displays for precise and clear info. Furthermore, the rider can switch between displays and preferred electronic aids via a handlebar-mounted switch.

Priced at RM 54,998, the MT-09 is offered in two colour tones, Icon Blue and Strom Fluo, along with a variety of stylish merchandise.
