KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that automotive components manufacturer EP Manufacturing (EPMB) was granted approval from Malaysia’s road transport department for the registration and licensing of the company’s first e-scooter. Called the Blueshark R1, it was only in July that EPMB received conditional approval from the government for its production and sales in Malaysia.

The said electric scooter was recently showcased at the 2022 International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia show held in Kuala Lumpur. Here alongside the R1 e-scooter was Blueshark’s battery-swapping station.

Blueshark R1: Key details

• Aiming at young urban commuters, the R1 showcases looks that are in line with its customer base's liking
• The under seat area carries two battery packs that power a 5 kWh e-motor drinking the rear wheel
• The e-motor is located where a regular scooter would get have CVT Gearbox making upgrading and repair work easy

• The R1 gets removable batteries
• It comes with two charging methods - an AC-powered charger connected to on-bike charging and household current
• The scooter comes with three ride modes that limit the speed to 40, 60, and 80 kmph with proportionate increases & decreases in battery life
• The company has claimed a travel range of 90 km

• The scooter comes fitted with a wide TFT-LCD screen displaying ride modes, range, and battery life
• It also offers Bluetooth connectivity with the rider’s smartphone and Blueshark application
• It mimics the noise of a motorcycle when the throttle is twisted, all thanks to a unique feature

• Part of the scooter’s specs sheet is a blind spot warning and dash cam recording front & rear
• Parking is easy with the reverse camera and gear
• Storage is taken care of by a small under seat storage compartment along with a parcel hook inside the front cowl
• A switch on the handlebar is dedicated to remotely opening the seat
