BMW R 1300 GS confirmed for 2024; here’s what we know

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the highly-anticipated BMW R 1300 GS will be soon introduced, thus bringing an end to the prolonged waiting period. Findings from a new certification document published in Switzerland confirm the big bore adventure motorcycle’s arrival in 2024.

The Swiss published homologation data revealed quite a bit of information about the upcoming BMW R 1300 GS. For instance -

• The previous-gen 1254 cc engine has been replaced by a more powerful 1300cc Boxer Twin engine. The new mill is expected to generate a maximum power of 143.5 hp at 7,750 rpm which is a significant increase from the previous 134.1 hp output. The torque output has also gone up from 148 Nm at 6,500 rpm to 143 Nm at 6,250 rpm
• The data also suggests major improvements in the top speed which has gone up from 220 kmh to 225 kmph

• The new motorcycle will also showcase improved dimensions like the wheelbase is now slightly longer at 1518 mm and the overall length has gone up to 2212 mm
• The documents state the bike’s laden weight to be 335 kg (with a 75 kg rider and some accessories)
• The new R 1300 GS is expected to weigh only a few kilos more, roughly at around 259 kg
• The spy images also confirm the upcoming BMW to feature a front-facing radar enabling active cruise control and a rear-facing radar for blind-spot detection

• The tyre size will remain the same as before - 120/70 R19 front and a 170/160 R17 rear tyre. The bike is expected to get various tyre options to cater to different off-road capabilities 
• Anti-lock braking system is given for the 2024 BMW model

The BMW R 1300 GS is expected to be unveiled during the 2023 BMW Motorrad Days celebration which is scheduled for July 7 to 9, 2023.
