BMW Motorrad and TVS extends partnership
KUALA LUMPUR: For those of you who aren’t aware, BMW Motorrad and TVS have been in partnership for a while, i.e. from 2013 and now the two have announced to officially extend their term. The two motorcycle brands together will develop and manufacture new products, including an electric vehicle.
The news was confirmed by BMW Motorrad head, Dr Markus Schramm. While making the announcement he said, “In light of our fruitful association with TVS Motor Company, we are delighted to extend and expand our cooperation agreement to include long-term partnership and joint development of new platforms and technologies, including electric vehicles.”
As mentioned above the Indian and German motorcycle firms have been in partnership for the last nine years and proving the fruitfulness of the deal is the 2018 entry-level G 310.
Speaking of the G 310, post launch the bike was an instant hit alongside the TVS Apache 310 RR; with more than 100,000 units sold globally.
Coming back to the renewed partnership, this time around BMW and TVS plans to showcase revamped technology and that too within the next 2 years. Also, part of the kit is a new range of electric motorcycles.
Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director TVS Motor Company on the extension of the partnership said, “In the nine years of our long-term strategic partnership, we have always cherished the common core values we share with BMW Motorrad: focus on quality, engineering prowess, innovation and customer satisfaction. These factors and our commitment to deliver superior quality products with a strong value proposition has been key to the success of all three products launched from the platform. The new world of future mobility encompasses a strong play through alternate solutions, including electric mobility.”
He further added, “Expanding this successful partnership to EVs and other newer platforms will create opportunities to deliver advanced technology and aspirational products to global markets and bring valuable synergies to both companies.”
The Indian brand, TVS is growing rapidly and with it is expanding BMW Motorrad. Not to forget, TVS in Feb 2020 became the new owner of Norton Motorcycles. The band under the new guidance unveiled the V4 SCR prototype which is set to enter production soon.
