2024 KTM 390 Duke debuts with bigger engine, new styling, and more tech

KUALA LUMPUR: The Austrian bike maker KTM has finally pulled the wraps of the highly awaited next-gen 390 Duke. In the latest form, the naked sport bike features a bigger engine, a completely refreshed design, and a pack of modern features.

Let’s talk about the mechanical setup first where the biggest change lies. The previous 373 cc displacement engine is replaced by a new LC4c 398.7cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder unit which complies with Euro 5.2 regulations. The revamp engine kicks out a maximum power of 44.86 PS and a peak torque of 39 Nm i.e. 1.36 PS and 2 Nm more than the predecessor.

The new engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, three riding modes (Street, Track, and Rain), and the segment-first launch control system.

The updated KTM 390 Duke also benefits from a new steel trellis frame, a new die-cast aluminium subframe, and a curved cast swingarm. The entirely new design of the bike looks sportier and more aggressive with sharp angles, a redesigned LED headlight mated to split DRLs, a new fuel tank, sharper tank extensions, and a split seat configuration. 

With thicker foam and a narrower profile, the seat measures 820 mm in height, which can be reduced to 800 mm for better riding comfort.

The other key highlights of the all-new 2024 KTM 390 Duke are - 

• New 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call & music control functions
• New switchgear 

• A new hazard light switch
• New alloy wheels shod with Michelin tyres
• Dual-channel ABS, cornering ABS with SuperMoto mode
• 320 mm front disc brake with a four-piston radial fixed calliper
• 240 mm rear disc brake with two-piston floating calliper 
• 43mm WP Apex open cartridge front fork with 150mm wheel travel
• WP Apex Separate piston offset mono-shock with 150mm wheel travel
• The next-gen bike tips the scale at 165 kg (dry), which is 16 kg more than its predecessor

The new KTM 390 Duke colour palette comprises two vibrant options - Electronic Orange and Atlantic Blue.
