2023 Yamaha YZF-R125 debuts in Europe with styling and tech upgrades
KUALA LUMPUR: In the world of racing, Yamaha is known for its YZF-R lineup including a series of sporty machines right from 125-cc novice bikes to litre-class track scorchers. The smallest among the range is the YZF-R125, which recently received a significant overhaul in the Old Continent. The changes include a redesigned styling, better tech, and some minor improvements.

At the core of the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R125 lies the same 125-cc Euro5-compliant VVA engine, which cranks out a maximum power output of 14.8 PS and a peak torque of 11.5 Nm.Talking about styling first, the 2023 Yamaha YZF-R125 benefits from a new design language reminiscent of the YZF-R15 V4. It now boasts a centrally mounted bi-functional LED projector headlight teamed up with LED daytime running lights on either side. We can also see a new fairing, which according to Yamaha not only accentuates the bike’s styling but also adds to aerodynamics.
The new R125 also gets a new 5.0-inch TFT instrument console with switchable themes. The cluster offers programmable shift-light and RPM range and Bluetooth connectivity. Also new for 2023 is R1-inspired triple clamp and handlebar switches, a traction control system, and a pre-wired for quick-shifter system.
At the core of Yamaha’s smallest supersport machine lies the same 125-cc Euro5-compliant Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) engine, which cranks out a maximum power output of 14.8 PS at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 11.5 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The power is sent to the ground via a 6-speed gearbox paired with a slipper clutch.
The suspension setup of the bike also remains identical with the 41 mm KYB USD front fork and a rear mono-shock. Handling the braking duties are 292 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at the rear.
While the all-new 2023 Yamaha YZF-R125 is expected to go on sale in the European market soon, the pricing is yet to be announced.
