2022 Yamaha R-Series models get a special livery

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha is celebrating its long and illustrious Grand Prix racing history of 60 years with the introduction of the “World GP 60th Anniversary Edition” livery for the YZF-R1, YZF-R3, and YZF-R7 models. Yes, the  R family is decked with this special livery to pay homage to the brand’s 500 victories recorded in the glorious six decades.

In 1964, Yamaha released its 250cc Grand Prix racer with a new white fairing that had a bold red stripe and red front fender. This red/white color soon became the brand’s identity in Grand Prix road racing. But later on, the speed block pattern era was introduced, which is said to be the “most famous and best-loved colour scheme ever featured on a racing motorcycle.”

Coming back to the World GP 60th Anniversary Edition livery, it embodies all the iconic livery elements be it white bodywork, red strips, and white vertical lines creating the red speed block. Also, part of the kit is the red front fender and gold coloured wheels. Further elevating this timeless look is a yellow front number plate and an anniversary emblem on the fuel tank

“Racing has always been in Yamaha’s DNA, as well as a cornerstone of motorcycle development,” said Derek Brooks, Yamaha Motorcycle Product Line Manager. “Nowhere is this fact more evident than with our R-series bikes, which have benefited from years of Grand Prix racing. Technology and designs have trickled down to our production Superbike and Supersport machines, making them dominant forces in MotoAmerica racing for so many years.”

The 2022 Yamaha R models wrapped with this special livery will be soon available in the international market with marginally increased prices. The World GP 60th Anniversary Edition R1 is priced at $18,099 (RM 75,445), the World GP 60th Anniversary Edition R7 tag reads $9,299 (RM 38,760) while the World GP 60th Anniversary Edition R1 will cost $5,499 (RM 22,921).
