2022 Yamaha MT-07 debuts in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced in 2018, Yamaha’s naked-faired sports bike MT-07 recently received some significant updates in the home market. These include cosmetic tweaks, new features, and mechanical changes. Set to hit the Japanese market next month, the new Yamaha MT-07 price tag reads JPY 8,14,000 (approximately equal to RM 30,546). It will be available in three colour options- Grey, Blue, and Matte Dark Grey.

Starting the details with the engine, the 2022 Yamaha MT-07 is powered by a newly updated powertrain that is compliant with the latest emission norms. The 688-cc inline twin-cylinder water-cooled unit churns out a maximum power output of 72.4 bhp at 8,750 rpm and a peak torque of 67 Nm at 6,500 rpm. A six-speed transmission channels the power to the ground.

In terms of styling, the middleweight naked roadster does retain its sharp and aggressive design but received some important tweaks to mark its unique identity. These include a new bi-function LED headlamp with a clear irradiation range and light distribution, along with integrated low beam and high beam. New body-coloured rims and new graphics on both sides of the tank are also a part of the new kit.

Yamaha also increased the height of the bike's handle by 12 mm and width by 32 mm for a more upright riding position, ensuring a more comfortable and relaxed riding posture. The bike also gets a new LCD multifunction metre with a negative display.

As for suspension, the bike features telescopic forks upfront and swingarm suspension on the back. The braking duties are taken care of by a 298 mm dual-disc on the front and a 245 mm single disc on the rear. Yamaha increased the diameter of the front disc to increase the braking potential,

While the automaker has updated the naked sports bike in Japan, the information on the new Yamaha MT-07 launch in the Malaysian market is not yet available.
