2021 Yamaha MT-09 teased, to arrive next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Yamaha Malaysia lineup includes several amazing models, one of which is the MT-09, the middleweight streetfighter. Also, the company is seen giving it updates every now and then, keeping the bike interesting and to customers current taste. Like in June 2020, new colours were introduced for it - the Yamaha Racing Blu and Ice Fluo. Now, we hear that Yamaha is working on a new version - the 2021 MT-09, which we suspect will be more than just a slight update. However, the big question is whether or not it will be introduced in Malaysia?

What hinted towards the 2021 MT-09? Well, Yamaha has begun a new teaser campaign and from the looks of it, we think it's the updated streetfighter. The teaser only shows the bike in bits and pieces, giving us some clues about the new version.

Firstly, the upcoming MT-09 will benefit from a revised front fascia with a single headlight flanked by angled LED strips that could double up as daytime running lights. Likewise, we feel that the rest of the bike will also be upgraded to level-up with the new front design.

Secondly, we also feel that the bike will receive a new power plant, as one of the clips shows a piston and conrod, floating up from some kind of dark, viscous liquid. The MT-09 is expected to swell up from an 847cc to an 890cc mill. This enhancement will not only lead to performance upgrades, but the power output will go up from 114 bhp to 120 bhp. This hike is aimed at accomplishing Euro5 competency without compromising on the power output.

Lastly, with the arrival of the new model, we expect not just one but two new machines. The MT-09SP is one of the most successful models in the MT range and we expect an even spicier version of it in the future.

More information on the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 will arrive soon, as the bike maker is all set to reveal the updated version on October 27th. So, stay tuned.
