2021 Honda PCX 160 launched in Thailand, price starts at RM 11,529

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in December, Honda introduced the all-new PCX 160 in the domestic market, which has now entered the shores of Thailand; the first country outside Japan to get the updated model. The new scooter features sharp aesthetic updates along with a slight bump in displacement and some practical upgrades. It is available in three versions in Malaysia’s neighboring country - Honda PCX 160 Non-ABS trim, Honda PCX 160 ABS, and Honda PCX 160 e:HEV. Let’s get into their details.

The new PCX 160 is powered by a 156.9-cc single-cylinder engine that incorporates Honda's eSP + technology. The new Euro5 compliant engine churns out a total output of 15.8 horsepower, although it is just one pony higher than the previous 150-cc mill, the company claims that the new unit runs cleaner and smoother. Also, new for 2021 is a duplex steel cradle touted as lighter and more durable. An upsized 8.1-litre fuel tank is also on offer to give the scooter a decent range in between fuel stops.

In terms of electronics, the new Honda PCX 160 has full LED lighting, a smart key, an all-new instrument cluster, a USB C socket, and Honda selectable traction control. Honda also increased the storage of the under-seat compartment to 30.4 litres (increased by 2.4 litres), big enough to keep a full-face helmet along with grocery bags.

The scooter rides on 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels wrapped in 110/70 and 130/70 tyres, respectively. The braking system of the ABS (single channel) variant includes disc brakes at the front and rear, while the non-ABS trim gets a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Moving to the Hybrid scooter on offer, the all-new PCX e:HEV makes use of a 125-cc engine mated to an AC electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack, generating a combined output of 16 horsepower.

The 2021 Honda PCX 160 price for different variants are:

  • PCX 160 without ABS - 85,900 Thai baht (RM 11,529)
  • PCX 160 with ABS - 91,900 Thai baht (RM 12,348)
  • PCX 160 e:HEV - 107,500 Thai baht (RM 14,444)
