Seems like 2020 is ending on a rather good note for the Malaysian motorcycle enthusiast. The Honda CRB250RR that up in the global motorcycle market from 2016 has finally (finally!!) made its way into the Malaysian bike arena. We have seen several teasers and leaked images of this two-wheeled beauty but it's nothing compared to the real version - which is sporty, powerful, and engaging, all at once.
Being a product of the Honda Malaysia Big Bike franchise - the 2021 CBR250RR carries a hefty price tag of RM 25,999 and as expected has a lot to offer on the performance and technology front. Locally it is available in two colour options - Winning Red and Matter Gunpowder Metallic, both of which look stunning adding the bike its head-turning appeal.
We still await to take the all-new Honda CBR250RR out for a spin and give you its in-depth performance review. Before that happens, here is its first impression giving you a rough idea about the stunner.
Appealing visuals
As can be seen from the 2021 CBR250RR images, it has an eye-catching design. Further complementing its sharp profile is the double-barrel exhaust system, massive petal disc brakes, and golden USD forks.
At the front, it flaunts a double-layered dual LED headlight (CBR range signature element) that adds to its rugged look. On the side, the geometrical graphics grabs all the attention. Supporting its 168kg (kerb weight) body are 100/70 - 17M/C 54S front and 140/70 - 17 M/C 66S rear tubeless tyres. Its 14.5-litre fuel tank is chiselled to the soul. Coming to its rear which flaunts LED taillights along with sharp body amplements.

The 2021 Honda CBR250RR benefits from a fully digital LCD meter that seems to be derived straight from a 1000cc superbike. It offers great visibility to the rider and provides a range of information like fuel consumption, gear position, riding mode, and more. The instrument console is very well designed with sufficient space for odometer and digital clock.
Segment-first features
Making the 2021 CBR250RR deal all the more attractive are the several segment-first features that Honda has included in its specs list. The sport bike comes equipped with three riding modes and ride-by-wire technology - no other 250cc bike gets these features, not even as option.
Talking about the 3-step riding modes - Sport, Sport +, and Comfort, it uses an electronically controlled throttle-by-wire system and the rider can switch to a mode depending on the riding need and style. The Sport mode is the standard mode offering all-round sports ride, the Sport + is a travelling mode and emphasises on powerful acceleration, lastly the Comfort mode is suitable for comfort-oriented rides.
The Throttle-by-wire system ensures gluck and stable acceleration by controlling the throttle opening via an electric signal.
Offered as standard fitments now is a bi-directional quick-shifter and slipper-assist clutch. While the latter contributes in reducing the operating load and rear wheel hopping, resulting in a comfortable and smooth ride. The former is especially designed for a quicker and more precise shift change.
Powerful 250cc powerplant
Powering the 2021 Honda CBR250RR is a 250cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC in-line twin-cylinder mill designed to offer absolute performance pleasure. Thanks to its high compression ratio and high-strength carbonized connectors it churns out a maximum power of 40.23 hp at 13,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 25 Nm at 11,000 rpm. Power is sent to the ground via a six-speed quick shifter gearbox with assist and slipper clutch.
Closest competitors
In the Malaysian market, the closest competitor of the 2021 CBR250RR is the Yamaha YZF-R25, priced at RM 19,8788.
Conclusion
From the looks of it, the 2021 CBR250RR looks like a promising sports bike that won’t disappoint the rider. However, only time will tell its virtue in the Malaysian motorcycle market.
