2021 Honda CB400F and the CB400X unveiled at the 2021 Auto Shanghai
KUALA LUMPUR: In several parts of the world, automakers have switched to online portals for unveiling their latest models. However, the story is entirely different in China where the 2021 Auto Shanghai Show is underway in full swing. So far, we have seen a number of new production-ready cars as well as some really amazing car concepts. And, now here we see two new bikes on display from the House of Honda - 2021 CB400F and the CB400X. Let’s get into their details one by one, starting with the CB400F.
2021 Honda CB400F
Inspired by the bigger CB500F, the new CB400F basic design is almost the same with a few tweaks here and there. Upfront, there is a revamped headlight providing it a more aggressive appeal. Furthermore, the use of a more muscular fuel tank paired with integrated aero ducts and split seats differentiates the new hunk from its elder sibling. Also added to the new 400-cc version is a hazard light switch. However, the equipment like 17-inch alloy wheels, digital instrument cluster, a tool-adjustable windscreen are all similar.
With a wheelbase measuring 1,416 mm, the CB400F has a slightly aggressive riding position thanks to a flat handlebar and center-set footpegs. Overall, it looks comfortable to ride for everyday use.
At its core, Honda has fitted a 399-cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that delivers a maximum power of 44.87 PS and a peak torque of 37 Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed unit sending power to the ground. For suspension, it gets a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear, while for the braking duties, there are single disc brakes at both ends.
2021 Honda CB400X
Moving to the CB400F’s adventure touring counterpart that is the all-new CB400X. This is a smaller sibling of the CB500X. The two bikes almost have the same design, except for some minor changes. These include a new headlight, beefy fuel tank, adjustable windshield, sculpted single-piece seat, and so on. All these together lend an adventure-tourer stance to the bike.
When it comes to engine and platform, the CB400X gets the same setup as the CB400F, however, the suspension setup has been tweaked for adventure-purpose. According to the reports, the new Honda CB400X will be available in two variants - standard and touring.
But why 400-cc bikes when Honda already has a 500-cc lineup? Because Japan’s two-wheeler driver’s license for medium-sized vehicles covers a displacement of less than 400-cc. So, with the launch of these new bikes, the automaker will be able to tap a wider market.
