What is No Claim Discount (NCD)?
No Claim Discount (NCD) is a discount that a rider gets when he/she has not made any insurance claim during the preceding period of the insurance. NCD discounts will increase with every passing year. However, once you have made a claim, you will lose the NCD entitlement. The amount of NCD you receive depends on several factors like type of motorcycle, coverage, and the number of years you haven’t made a claim. Normally, bikes get around 25% of NCD.
What types of motorcycle insurance are available?
There are three types of motorcycle insurance available in Malaysia. First is the Third Party insurance that’s most basic and provides minimal coverage. It does not offer any coverage to you but only to the third party. Next is Third Party, Fire, and Theft insurance, it covers claims made against you by a third party in the event of a motorcycle accident. It also provides extra coverage on any damages caused by fire or theft. What are the add-on coverage available for motorcycle insurance?
Here are a few add-on coverages available on motorcycle insurance. The list includes-
- Damages caused to your motorcycle by natural disasters.
- Damage caused in the event of a strike, riot or civil commotion.
- Any liability claim from pillion passenger in the event of a motorcycle accident.
- Damage caused to the accessories fixed to your motorcycle.
Note not all insurance cover provides all add-on, some offer less while others more. It’s advisable to choose a policy that covers all the add-ons you require.
Can I claim insurance for bike scratches?
In such a situation, you’ll most likely have a deductible on your comprehensive coverage. Therefore, you must cover the amount before insurance coverage kicks in and includes the cost of vehicle repair.
How much can I claim for bike accident?
In such a situation, you can make two types of claims - Own damage claim: Here you’ll claim your own insurance policy, which means you’ll lose your NCD entitlement. Third Party claim: This claim is made when you are not the party at fault in the accident. Also, you can retain your NCD entitlement.
How do I claim insurance on a stolen bike?
If your motorcycle is stolen and you have a comprehensive or a Third Party Fire and Theft Insurance cover, you can claim the loss. All you have to do is notify your insurance agent/company within the given timeline and follow the procedure asked by the concerned.
When can I cancel my motorcycle insurance policy?
One can cancel his or her motorcycle insurance anytime. All you need to do is notify the insurance company, a penalty fee might be charged if are canceling the policy before one year.
