Honda CBR250R the sports bike that loaded with practicality
With the CBR250R Honda entered into the beginner quarter-litre sports bike segment in the country. Also populated by the Kawasaki Ninja 250 and the Yamaha YZF R25, this segment is the favourite of people looking for some extra oomph. Each of these bikes has their own character and features that make them special.
This article looks at some of the best features of the Honda CBR250R.
An all-rounder engine
Hondas are known for having very refined engines. The CBR25R’s engine is no exception. The engine also defines the character of the bike, which in this case seems to be a commuter friendly tune. The engine is a 250 cc, fuel injected and liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder mill that uses a 6-speed transmission. The power output of 27 hp at 8500 rpm and 23.1 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm is lower than its brethren from Yamaha and Kawasaki. But the way that this power is delivered makes it more practical than them.
Riders of any experience level will be able to use this power even on city roads. The engine scores big on fuel efficiency too. It gets an astonishing 50 kmpl of average fuel economy. This is largely thanks to a more compact and lightweight engine that also uses low friction piston rings and iridium spark plugs. Even the fuel tank is massive for the segment at 13 litres. The CBR250R then makes for a very good choice for someone who wants a slightly bigger capacity commuter.
Classic styling
The Honda CBR250R gets more restrained styling that is a throwback to their older racing bikes. At the same time, it is also a very comfortable bike that does a good job of being a commuter bike. The twin-pod headlight is a departure from the previous gen’s VFR inspired styling and is more in line with the CBR1000RR. The body is mostly clean with only one large gash for engine cooling. Practical touches like the high windscreen, high handlebars, large rear seat and high tank increase the practical aspect of the bike further. There are three color options to choose from: Black, Millennium, Red, and Lemon Ice Yellow.
Graphics in true Honda fashion are racy but restrained. The rear is almost unchanged from the previous gen CBR, as is the instrument cluster.
Handling and comfort
At 161 kg, it is lighter than the competition. This makes it easy for any rider to get the most out of it. The seating position is almost upright and does not tax the wrists or the back. The rider can still confidently lean the bike around corners and come out smiling. While the large windscreen and the raised handlebars do give the impression that this bike is more of a tourer than a sports bike, it can do both these tasks with aplomb. The engine is free of vibrations.
The suspension setup and the chassis inspire confidence. The tires are always grippy and the brakes are sufficient. Even the most demanding rider will be satisfied with this bike’s mile-munching ability.
The Honda CBR250R is one of the best beginner bikes in the country today. Its competitors may have more power and look more aggressive, but for sheer practicality and ease of riding, nothing comes close. Honda has made a bike that is not only good for sporty riding but also makes mincemeat of your boring daily commute. Whether you are a veteran biker with thousands of kilometres under your belt or someone who has never ridden a bike before, this Honda will have you satisfied with its refined engine, stylish looks and ease of handling.
