Things we like
|
For a five-seater SUV, the Proton X70 feels fairly large and is big enough to put some seven-seater SUVs from one segment above. The Proton X70 is the longest in its class, which dwarfs some SUVs from one segment above, thus giving the Proton X70 a much expensive feel on the outside. In terms of comfort and convenience, features on the inside, the Proton X70 really outclasses all the SUVs in its category. The X70 feels plush on the inside as well, thanks to the sturdy build quality and impeccable fit and finish, which wasn’t totally expected from a mainstream car maker like Proton. Due to having the largest dimensions in its category, the Proton X70 feels incredibly spacious when it comes to interior. The legroom, knee room and head room at the rear are comparable to really premium sedans, and thanks to the sliding backrest, the rear seat feels very comfortable even for much longer travel runs. |
Compared to the small and old school looking previous generation Toyota Rush, the new version looks absolutely modern and eye-catching. The new Rush looks quite striking with angular front headlamps, wide front grille, rugged side profile with black cladding, roof rails and machined alloy wheels and the sporty rear profile with wide and horizontal tail lamps. All these design elements make the Rush feel like it is a vehicle from one category above. The new generation Toyota Rush now features the additional flexibility of two extra seats in the third row, making it a seven-seater compact MUV. These extra two seats have a flexible folding arrangement, thus opening up a cavernous boot space at the rear. At the same time, there are multiple cup holders and small storage spaces in the entire cabin, making it a practical place to be in. The previous generation Toyota Rush was known for its almost indestructible feel, and this new version of the Rush feels the same way as well. The ever trustable reliability factor of brand Toyota comes into play, giving the owners of the Rush an extra peace of mind when it comes to the after-sales period of owning it. |
Things we don't like
|
While the Proton X70 is quite big enough giving it an intimidating stance, the overall design is not that eye-catching and distinctive. While the side profile, as well as rear profile, still manages to look quite unique, the front end of the X70 looks quite pale, if going by the segment standards. The grille too looks very simple for a car of this category. While there is no question on the levels of space on the inside, the rear seat lacks under-thigh support a bit, which robs of some of the comfort to the rear occupants. The short length of the rear bench might be a bit of a trouble to tall passengers. While the engine feels very responsive and powerful for an SUV this big, the 6-speed automatic transmission of the Proton X70 feels a bit sluggish and doesn’t feel as exciting to drive while shifting gears as in other premium SUVs. |
While the Toyota Rush looks very striking and contemporary on the outside, the fact that it has been moderately styled on the inside makes for confused opinions. The too subtle styling on the inside with boring looking instrument console and center console dilutes the overall experience. The new Rush is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is not as exciting in its power delivery as one would expect from it. The linear power delivery is good for comfortable and effortless driving but is not as engaging to drive, which might be a small turn off for enthusiasts.
