Things we like
|
As far as looks and personality goes, the Mazda 2 is one of the most youthful looking sedans in its segment. The curvaceous exterior design of the Mazda 2, with the dramatic looking front grille and headlamps and tail lamps, make it look very trendy and upmarket compared to other cars in the same price bracket, which definitely appeals to the younger set of crowd more. Despite being the most affordable car from Mazda, the Mazda 2 features impeccable and premium build quality and premium fit and finish, which definitely makes one feel that he is inside a car from one segment above. In addition to it, the presence of premium features gives the Mazda 2 a feel-good factor generally compromised in entry-level sedans. |
The Nissan Almera might belong to the most entry-level price point of compact sedans. However, given its nice length and wheelbase dimensions, the Almera has a good road presence with longer footprints on the surface. Thanks to this road presence, the Nissan Almera has got the aura of a ‘big car’ which a person generally upgrading from a compact hatchback to a sedan demands from his new bigger car. Thanks to a much longer wheelbase, the Nissan Almera offers best in class rear seat experience, which some of the sedans from one category could also not provide. With great legroom and knee room and good under-thigh support, the rear passengers are being offered good comfort levels in the Almera. With a bigger focus on comfort for the passengers, the Nissan Almera also is praiseworthy for the plush ride quality it offers. The suspension is on a softer side, which works wonders while driving over broken sections of the tarmac. |
Things we don't like
|
Being an entry-level sedan, the Mazda 2 boasts of compact dimensions, which have eaten up space on the inside. Due to the curvaceous design, the headroom at the rear is at a premium, while at the same time, the legroom at the rear too is nothing much to be praised at its best. Though the Mazda 2 has a premium fit and finish on the inside and looks vibrant on the outside, however, on the inside, things are not as eye-catching as they should have been. Mazda has made the overall interior cabin look very simple, with the layout focusing on minimalism. |
While the Nissan Almera has the stance and dimensions of a big sedan, the interior cabin design, fit and finish are something which dulls out the overall experience. The dashboard feels low rent with a dated design, while at the same time, the choice of materials also feel as if they are built to cost. Despite being positioned as a sedan which offers a suitable upgrade from a compact hatchback, the Nissan Almera lacks a number of premium features which nowadays are present in all of their competitors. Features like LEDs and a modern touch screen infotainment system are some things which are considered a necessity in a sedan, and the Nissan Almera lacks a number of them. The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Nissan Almera lacks the punch and feels dull when revved hard. The engine gets its job done, but the driving enthusiasts might not be impressed with its boring power delivery.
