Zeekr X and 009 make a bold entrance in Malaysia: Premium EVs at unbeatable prices?
KUALA LUMPUR: After a week of announcing the opening of bookings for the Zeekr X hatchback EV and Zeekr 009 MPV EV, Zeekr Malaysia invited the media for an exclusive preview of these two vehicles. With Malaysia’s electric vehicle market expanding rapidly and competition intensifying, Zeekr can make a mark.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What's the estimated price of the Zeekr X?
At the very top, under RM180k, significantly less for the lower variant we predictWhat's the estimated price of the Zeekr 009?
Estimated of around RM370kFor the Zeekr X, this challenge is particularly significant, given stiff competition from both Chinese and European EV brands, not to mention its own sibling rivalry with the Volvo EX30 and Smart #1 and #3, which share the same platform.
However, the Zeekr X stands out with its pricing. With an estimated ceiling price of RM180,000 for all variants, including the higher-spec twin motor model, Zeekr offers a fully loaded EV for nearly the same amount as the entry-level price of its competitors. You’re not likely to find a Volvo or Smart offering the same value at that price point.

What’s even more impressive is the premium feel of the Zeekr X. The car exudes a futuristic vibe, arguably more so than its siblings. One standout feature is the sleek little display on the B-pillar, providing charging information—an intelligent touch that lives up to a smart name.
Then there’s the Zeekr 009 MPV, which, despite initial expectations, ended up stealing the spotlight during the media event. A number of "taukes" (businessmen) turned up to inspect the MPV, drawing comparisons to their Toyota Alphards and walking away visibly impressed.
While EVs may still pose charging challenges for some, especially in Malaysia where charging infrastructure is still growing, the 009 MPV’s luxurious interior and spacious design have caught their attention. It appears to cater perfectly to those who use their vehicles for city driving and close intercity commutes.
Yet, one big question looms: while Volvo and Smart benefit from the established backing of Volvo Malaysia and Proton, who will support Zeekr’s customers?
Daniel Lee, General Manager of Zeekr Malaysia, assured the media that the brand would be supported by the same team that brought Lotus to Malaysia. Zeekr’s flagship showroom in Petaling Jaya, near University Malaya, is nearing completion, with plans to expand further to Johor Bahru and Penang.
The Zeekr X and Zeekr 009 bring a lot to the table—strong design, impressive build quality, and competitive pricing. The true test will come down to the after-sales support.
If the team behind Lotus can ensure a smooth customer experience, the Zeekr X might just outshine the Volvo EX30 and Smart #3. With its sleek looks and great price, it’s certainly an appealing choice. We haven’t yet driven the car, but early impressions suggest it delivers a soft, comfortable ride, making it well-suited for daily use.
As for the Zeekr 009, whether it will convince current tauke Alphard owners remains to be seen. But for those who shuttle around the city in an Alphard and reserve their sports cars for the weekend, the Zeekr 009 is a tempting alternative—especially with its estimated price tag of RM370,000.
While Volvo will introduce a twin model in the form of the Volvo EM90, it’s unlikely to match the Zeekr 009 in either pricing or modern styling.

With the Zeekr X, customers can expect two variants: the Premium rear-wheel-drive model, which delivers 268 hp and sprints from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, and the Flagship AWD variant with 422 hp, which accomplishes the same in just 3.8 seconds.
Both models are powered by a 66kWh battery, providing a driving range of up to 446 km and supporting fast charging from 10% to 80% in only 30 minutes. Priced at under RM180,000, the Zeekr X competes strongly against rivals like the Volvo EX30 and Smart #3.
Meanwhile, the Zeekr 009 wants to set a new benchmark in the luxury MPV market. With an estimated price of under RM370,000, this high-performance dual-motor EV produces 603 hp and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
Available in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, the 009 boasts a spacious and luxurious interior, complete with features such as a 30-speaker YAMAHA surround sound system, multiple HD displays, and a 582 km driving range thanks to its 116kWh battery.
The initial excitement around these models is clear, but their true potential will be measured by how well they perform on Malaysian roads.
With pricing and features that seem to outshine competitors, the Zeekr X and Zeekr 009 certainly make a strong case for early adopters.
The key to their long-term success will be in the after-sales support provided by the same team that brought Lotus to Malaysia. If they can deliver reliable service, these models may very well shake up both the compact SUV and luxury MPV segments.
With Zeekr’s entry into Malaysia’s EV market, the future looks both exciting and competitive.
