Zeekr makes a grand debut in Thailand; Is Malaysia next in line?
KUALA LUMPUR: Zeekr is a premium electric automobile brand owned by Geely that recently made its grand debut in Thailand. The automaker previewed not one, not two, but a total of three EVs at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show viz. Zeekr X, 009 and 007. Pre-orders for the Zeekr X urban SUV and Zeekr 009 MPV are now underway in the Land of Smiles with deliveries slated to commence from Q3 2024.

Zeekr X
This is the first time Zeekr introduced the right-hand drive version of the X on the global stage. It is a premium urban SUV that underpins Geely’s Scalable Electric Architecture found on the smart #1 EV. The EV measures 4,450 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width, and 1,572 mm in height, with a wheelbase that spans 2,750 mm.
The Zeekr X boasts a sleek exterior with a closed-off grille, distinctive daytime running lights, matrix headlamps, and dynamic design elements. Among the other key exterior highlights are - an upswept window line, a contrasting black roof, and a full-width tail light bar.
Inside, it features a minimalist cabin with advanced tech like multiple screens (8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment unit, and a huge 24.3-inch AR head-up display), a sliding console with a built-in refrigerator, a Yamaha 13-speaker sound system and luxurious touches like rose gold accents. The EV can be configured as either a four- or five-seater, providing versatility for different passenger needs.
The Zeekr X comes in two powertrain options: single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD, with impressive performance and a 66 kWh battery providing a range of up to 560 km.
Zeekr 009
The Zeekr 009 is a premium MPV based on the larger SEA1 platform. It is 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, and 1,848 mm tall, and spans a 3,205 mm long wheelbase.
The EV showcases a luxurious ‘Fountain of Light’ exterior design with a giant illuminated grille, striking headlamps mated to vertically-oriented LED DRLs, and a pronounced bonnet. Inside, it offers six lavish seats in Nappa leather, including business class-style captain's chairs, massage functions, Yamaha speakers, and advanced techs like multiple screens and one-touch control for rear amenities.
The powertrain boasts dual-motor all-wheel drive, delivering 544 PS and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Battery options include 116 kWh and 140 kWh, offering ranges of 702 and 822 km respectively.
Zeekr 007
The Zeekr 007 is an electric sedan that underpins the PMA2+ platform and measures 4,865 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,450 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,928 mm.
The Zeekr 007 sedan features a distinct Stargate front mask with customizable LEDs, emphasizing its unique exterior. Inside, it offers advanced tech like a large head-up display, reclining rear seats, and a premium sound system. The EV comes in single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD options, with acceleration times ranging from 3.8 to 5.6 seconds, and offers a range between 616 and 688 km.
Zeekr is gearing up to launch its operations in Thailand by teaming up with several top auto dealers. The brand's first store is set to open in Bangkok this year, with plans to extend its reach to cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, and more. Zeekr aims to ensure premium user experiences by partnering with trusted local EV charging service providers for convenient and comfortable charging solutions for its customers in Thailand.
Apart from Thailand, Zeekr has already revealed its sales plans for other Southeast Asian markets such as Singapore, the Philippines, Laos, and Myanmar, but information regarding its entry into Malaysia remains undisclosed at this time. However, we eagerly await updates as the brand continues to study different markets in response to growing customer demands for smart EVs in the region.
