Zeekr 7X EV SUV reaches 20,000 deliveries in 50 days in China - New Starboy?

KUALA LUMPUR:  China’s electric vehicle market has a new record-breaker with the Zeekr 7X, a luxury electric crossover supported by Geely, which reached 20,000 units delivered within just 50 days of its launch.

Priced around $32,000 (approximately RM141,467), the Zeekr 7X has quickly gained traction and is poised to become the brand’s best-selling model, even though delivery rates have eased slightly following an initially explosive response.

Zeekr, launched by Geely in 2021 as a premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, has rapidly become a significant player. The company’s growth story took a leap earlier this year when it raised $441 million (RM1.9 billion) through its New York Stock Exchange listing in May, drawing considerable international attention.

Currently, Zeekr has six models in its lineup, achieving a cumulative sales volume of 167,922 units from January to October 2024. Its Zeekr 001, a sleek "shooting brake," has been a consistent favorite among buyers.

The Zeekr 7X, which officially entered the Chinese market on September 20, is set to surpass the 001 in popularity. Within just 24 hours of its launch, Zeekr reported over 6,000 orders for the 7X, underscoring high consumer interest in the new crossover.

By September 30, only ten days post-launch, the company had already delivered 5,000 units to its earliest customers.

The latest milestone came on November 11, when Zeekr confirmed reaching 20,000 deliveries. However, after an initial surge averaging 500 daily deliveries during the first ten days, the pace has settled to approximately 375 units daily over the following 40 days.

To support this growing user base, Zeekr now operates 430 dedicated stores across China, providing customers with comprehensive sales and after-sales service.

The Zeekr 7X is aimed squarely at families seeking a roomy and versatile electric vehicle.

Measuring 4,825mm in length, 1,930mm in width, and 1,656mm in height, with a spacious 2,925mm wheelbase, the Zeekr 7X provides generous interior space thanks to its pure electric Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which maximizes headroom and legroom compared to conventional midsize SUVs.

The Zeekr 7X is equipped with a powerful electric drivetrain, featuring silicon carbide e-motors that enable a brisk 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.8 seconds.

Its advanced 800V electrical system powers two battery options: a 75kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery for a range of up to 605 kilometers (CLTC) and a 100kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery that extends the range to 780 kilometers (CLTC).

The Zeekr 7X’s LFP batteries offer world-leading charging speeds, going from 10% to 80% state of charge in just 10.5 minutes.

The SUV is fitted with a sophisticated sensor suite, including lidar, high-definition cameras, and millimeter-wave radars, along with dual Nvidia Orin-X SoCs, ensuring robust Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) capabilities.

Its infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm 8295 chipset, delivering smooth connectivity and high-performance user experiences.

Designed with families in mind, the Zeekr 7X includes 32 ergonomically placed storage compartments and a spacious 616-liter trunk, ideal for weekend trips or outdoor adventures.

The success of the Zeekr 7X not only highlights Zeekr’s strength in the NEV market but also reflects China’s readiness for competitively priced, luxury electric crossovers, further positioning Zeekr as a strong contender in the competitive EV landscape.
