Xpeng X9 launching soon in Thailand, Will it come to Malaysia?

KUALA LUMPUR: After the G6 electric SUV, Xpeng is geared up to launch its another electric model in Thailand, called the X9. The Xpeng X9 is a large premium MPV based on the company’s SEPA 2.0 EV platform. It will hit the Thai shores in October this year and square up against electric MPVs like Zeekr 009 and Denza D9.

Launched in China in January this year, the seven-seater Xpeng X9 measures 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, 1,785 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. The boot capacity is estimated at 755 litres, which is expandable up to 2,554 litres with the third-row seats folded up. 

In the Chinese market, the electric MPV comes in three drivetrain options - 

• A front-mounted electric motor producing 320 PS and 450 Nm, mated to an 84.5 kWh LFP battery which offers a range of 610 km (on the CLTC cycle).
• A front-mounted electric motor with the same output as above, paired with a 101.5 kWh LFP battery which provides a cruising range of 702 km (on the CLTC cycle).
• A dual-motor all-wheel-drive performance model tuned to make 503 PS and 640 Nm. It comes with a 101.5 kWh ternary lithium battery with a 640 km driving range.

The MPV comes equipped with an active rear-wheel steering system and an intelligent dual-chamber air suspension system, along with a class-leading turning radius of 5.4m.

In terms of design, the X9 boasts a dual-tier lighting setup on the front comprising daytime running lights and main headlamps. The lower intake incorporates a honeycomb mesh pattern, enhancing the vehicle's sporty appearance. Other key highlights include flat rear windows, sliding rear doors, and lush pop-out door handles.

The seven-seater cabin boasts a 2-2-3 layout with a bucketload of advanced features, including -

• 17.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit
• 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
• 21.4-inch rear display
• World's first wrap-around integrated central AC
• Xopera 23-speaker sound system
• “Airline-style” second-row seats with massage, heating, and ventilation functions
• Leather upholstery
• Panoramic glass roof 
• Refrigerator
• Xpilot suite of advanced driver-assistance systems

“The X9 redefines the conventional norms of MPV models in the market with industry-leading innovations in design, intelligence, space, handling, and safety”, claims Xpeng.

Will the Xpeng X9 come to Malaysia?

The Xpeng X9 is likely to make its way to Malaysia as hinted during a recent press conference, although no definite timeline has been provided.
