Xpeng G6 launched in Malaysia; here’s all you need to know about the Chinese EV

A new Chinese EV brand named Xpeng has just entered the Malaysian electric vehicle market in collaboration with Bermaz Auto. The automaker has officially launched its first electric car, the Xpeng G6, as a fully-imported (CBU) model. Let’s check out the new Chinese EV in detail -

Price

The Xpeng G6 is a fastback coupe SUV available in two variants, 580 Pro and 755 Pro, priced as follows -

Powertrain, range, and charging 

While both trims have a single rear-mounted electric motor, the power output numbers vary. The rear-wheel drive setup makes 259 PS and 440 Nm for the entry-level 580 Pro and 286 PS and 440 Nm for the 755 Pro. In terms of performance, the lower trim runs from zero to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds whereas the top-spec version is a bit faster completing the century sprint in 6.2 seconds. The top speed remains the same at 202 kmph.

The Xpeng G6 580 Pro is equipped with a 66-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering a WLTP-claimed range of up to 435 km. The Xpeng G6 755 Pro, on the other hand, comes with an 87.5 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) that lets the EV cruise up to 570 km on a single charge.

Equipped with an 800-volt high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) platform, the EV supports both AC and DC charging. The charging capacity and times are as follows -

Dimensions

Based on Xpeng’s modular Smart Electric Platform Architecture 2.0 (SEPA 2.0), the G6 is 4,753 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. The boot space is estimated at 571 litres, which is expandable up to 1,374 litres with the rear 60:40 split-folding seats down.

Exterior

Developed in consultation with Sci-Fi writer Liu Cixin, the Xpeng G6 boasts an eye-catching design with tech-inspired aesthetics and sleek lines targetting the younger generation. It features short front and rear overhangs along with its low centre of gravity which ensures excellent handling, better aerodynamics, and a smooth driving experience.

Interior

Hop inside the Xpeng G6 and you will be greeted by a spacious, futuristic cabin that introduces the “Circle of Life” design concept. It is fitted with ergonomically designed seats wrapped with eco-friendly materials. The seats include ventilation and heating (cushion and headrest) for the driver and front passenger, 6-way power adjustments, 4-way lumbar support with memory settings, and a Welcome Mode. The rear seats also have heating functionality.

Dubbed as the “Ultra Smart Coupe SUV,” the EV comes equipped with a smart in-car operating system, Xmart OS 5.0. It includes a Smart Cockpit powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8155P chipset and uses multi-sensor software and hardware to improve driver and vehicle interaction. 

The EV boasts a 10.2-inch digital dashboard and a 14.96-inch infotainment unit supporting Intelligent Voice Assistant and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The system will be updated via periodic software updates that take place over the air.

Other comfort-enhancing features include - 50W wireless smartphone charging pads, keyless door entry, remote start (via app only), dual-zone climate control system with PM2.5 and pollen filters, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and an 18-speaker sound system.

Safety

The EV has several advanced safety features, supported by an Nvidia Orin-X processor, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The pack comprises -

Colours 

As for the exterior, Xpeng offers five colour options for the EV, including Midnight Black, Silver Frost, Artic White, Graphite Gray, and Fiery Orange. The two interior colour options are Black and Grey.

On the purchase of the Xpeng G6, Bermaz Xpeng Sdn Bhd offers a 5-year/120,000 km manufacturing warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km High Voltage Battery Pack warranty.
