KEY TAKEAWAYS
Who will distribute Xpeng EVs in Malaysia?
Bermaz Auto, the company that also distributes Mazda and Kia in Malaysia, secured the distributorship for Xpeng EVs in March this year. When will the Xpeng G6 launch in Malaysia?
The Xpeng G6 is expected to launch in Malaysia by the end of this year. While Xpeng Malaysia has not revealed the name of the EV yet, the teased image showcases the front silhouette of the Xpeng G6. It is also backed by The Edge last month's report confirming that the first Xpeng EV to be launched in Malaysia will be the G6.
Globally introduced in April last year, the G6 is a 5-seater electric SUV based on the Xpeng’s SEPA 2.0 platform. It measures 4,753 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The Xpeng G6 is offered in two versions in the global markets - a single-motor RWD and a dual-motor 4WD. The former kicks out a maximum power of 296 PS and a peak torque of 440 Nm, while the dual motor setup churns out a total system output of 487 PS and 660 Nm.
Two battery packs are available - a 66-kWh lithium iron phosphate unit for the rear-wheel-drive variant, offering a CLTC-rated range of 580 km, and an 87.5-kWh nickel manganese cobalt unit, which provides a cruising range of 755 km for the single motor configuration and 700 km for the dual motor setup. The EV supports 800V electric architecture and is capable of handling up to 480 kW of DC charging.
Developed in consultation with Sci-Fi writer Liu Cixin, the Xpeng G6 features a striking design with sleek lines inspired by tech-fluid aesthetics. The design balances the coupe's fastback style with the need for a spacious and comfortable cabin.
The spacious, futuristic cabin features a 14.96-inch touchscreen mated to a smart in-car operating system, a 10.2-inch digital driver display, a large panoramic glass roof, leatherette-covered seats, two 50W mobile charging points, and a 960W audio system with 18 speakers. The EV is also equipped with advanced safety technologies supported by Lidar sensors.
As for pricing, we can refer to the Thai market, where the Xpeng G6 comes in two variants - Standard Range and Long Range, priced at THB 1.5 million (RM 200k) and THB 1.7 million (RM 230k).
Details of the Malaysia-spec Xpeng G6 are expected to be rolled out closer to the launch, which is likely to happen soon.
