What to expect from the Tiggo 4 Pro, the vehicle behind Chery Malaysia's mysterious car launch in Q4

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Auto Malaysia has been stirring up excitement with the announcement of launching a new, wallet-friendly mass market vehicle in Q4, following the debut of the Tiggo 7 Pro in Q2.

So, we've got this mystery car everyone's buzzing about, and the word on the street is that it might be the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. It's the most obvious choice as that was also one of the SUVS that was previewed locally, when Chery wanted to re-enter the Malaysian market a year ago.

But hold up, there's also another SUV, the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro. It's smaller and has a more of an really affordable vibe. Now, I know it seems a bit out there to think it could be the Tiggo 2 Pro, but hey, weirder things have happened, and they did say it was a surprise!

So just for kicks, and to cover all our bases, let's also explore the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro too. This little guy is expected to hang out in the same price range and size as the Perodua Ativa, which is interesting.

Bottom line, both these cars should be pretty sweet deals. They're easy on the wallet and have got a lot of fans, making them solid picks for anyone looking for a bargain. They're could be like hidden gems that offer a great mix of price and cool features, perfect for anyone looking for a good ride without breaking the bank.

Chery Tiggo 4 Pro

Dimensions and Size Comparison:

The Tiggo 4 Pro is a compact SUV. It measures around 4.3 meters in length, about 1.8 meters wide, and stands around 1.6 meters tall. That’s pretty much in the same ballpark as the Honda HR-V or Toyota C-HR. This puts it in the same category as popular compact SUVs like the Honda HR-V or Toyota C-HR, unless its pricing changes that perspective.

Powertrain Specifications:

The Tiggo 4 Pro comes with either a 1.5-litre N/A or turbocharged unit either paired to a CVT or manual transmission. Since manual transmissions are not the norm in Malaysia, we can cancel that out but the engine could be an interesting choice.

Since we’re hoping for the best, we hope it comes with the forced induction unit, delivering around 145 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. This engine choice could provide a balance between performance and efficiency.

Inside the Cabin:

Expect a modern and spacious interior. A large touchscreen infotainment system, probably with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, should keep you connected. The seats? Well, if the other Chery SUVs launched in Malaysia is anything to go by, they should be comfy and premium-feeling, for sure.

Infotainment System:

The Tiggo 4 Pro is expected to come with a large touchscreen infotainment system, possibly around 10 inches. It would likely offer connectivity features like Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, providing seamless integration with smartphones. 

Safety:

It's likely the SUV will be packed with ADAS features, multiple airbags, ESC, parking assists, and hill start assist. But we’ll have to wait and see what they have filtered out, as Chery Malaysia did mention it’ll be more of an affordable vehicle.

Sales and Market Performance:

Globally, the Tiggo 4 Pro has been well-received in markets like South America and parts of Asia, thanks to its balance of features, size, and price. 

Price Estimation for Malaysia:

Considering its features and positioning in other markets, the Tiggo 4 Pro could be priced competitively, possibly around the RM 80,000 to RM 90,000 range in Malaysia. Considering that the cheapest Omoda 5 in Malaysia is priced at RM 108,800, We should see it below the RM90k mark, but the big question is at what cost? No turbo engine? Less safety features?

 

Chery Tiggo 2 Pro

Dimensions and Size Comparison: 

The Tiggo 2 Pro is more on the petite side, about 4.2 meters long, 1.76 meters wide, and 1.57 meters high. It's your typical subcompact SUV, akin to the Perodua Ativa or Honda WR-V and Mazda CX-3.

Powertrain Specifications:

The Tiggo 2 Pro is usually powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, providing modest power around 105 horsepower and 135 Nm of torque, coupled with a manual or automatic transmission. Once again, since we’re not a manual market, it’ll probably be an automatic transmission. For perspective, that’s around the same kind of power the Perodua Ativa produces, but the Honda WR-V produces more. 

Inside the Cabin:

The Tiggo 2 Pro, being a more compact and entry-level SUV, will likely have a practical and straightforward interior. It would focus on functionality, with a well-organized dashboard and user-friendly controls. The seating would be designed for comfort, suitable for daily commutes and longer drives.

Infotainment System:

For the Tiggo 2 Pro, you can expect a slightly smaller touchscreen infotainment system, probably around 9 inches. It should include basic connectivity features like Bluetooth, USB ports, and possibly smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system would offer essential multimedia capabilities and possibly include a reverse camera for easier parking.

Safety:

Chery’s cheapest SUV should come with basic driver-assistance systems, which may include features like rear parking sensors and a basic lane departure warning system. Since it’s a very affordable car, the car should also come with standard safety features such as front airbags for the driver and front passenger, anti-lock braking system (ABS), Helps and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD).

Sales and Market Performance:

As an entry-level SUV, the Tiggo 2 Pro has seen some success in various markets for its affordability and practical features, appealing to first-time car buyers and small families. It’s not as popular as the Tiggo 4 Pro.

Price Estimation for Malaysia:

The Tiggo 2 Pro is should be more competitively priced, with estimates suggesting a range between RM 60,000 and RM 70,000. This attractive pricing positions it as a compelling choice for entry-level buyers. In comparison to Chery's most affordable SUV in Malaysia, the Omoda 5, the Tiggo 2 Pro could also be their mass-market contender, set to rival the popular Perodua Ativa.
