KUALA LUMPUR: What you see in the picture above is no ordinary car, it is Volkswagen’s first fully-electric sedan concept, the ID. AERO.

  • The EV recently made its global premiere in China and is positioned by the brand in the premium mid-size sedan segment. It is part of the VWs ID. family that already has five members namely the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6, and ID.Buzz.

    The production version of the ID.AERO sedan for the Chinese market will go on sale in the second half of 2023. There it will be offered in two trim options, one for each joint venture, the FAW-VW and SAIC-VW. The production in the Europe-based Emden facility is scheduled to commence sometime next year.

    Ralf Brandstätter, Chief Executive Officer of Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “With the ID. AERO show car, we are revealing a preview of the next member of the ID. family. A car with an emotional and at the same time extremely aerodynamic design, a range of over 600 kilometers, an extraordinary amount of space and a premium interior,”

    He added, “With our ACCELERATE strategy, we are intensively driving forward the electrification of our model range. Following the ID.4, this model will be our next global car for Europe, China and the US. ”

    VW ID. AERO key highlights -

    • It is based on the automaker’s MEB platform that can be adapted for different  shape and sizes of vehicles

    • The ID. AERO is a four-door EV and is almost five-meter long
      It has been designed keeping in mind the aerodynamic principles. For instance, the aerodynamically designed front end and roof ensure optimum airflow

    • The side profile features 22-inch sporty two-tone wheels designed in a turbine-style
    • Classic door handles are replaced by illuminated touch surfaces that further reduce the drag
    • Like all the ID. family members, this one also gets the typical ID. honeycombs

    • The front also features a narrow light strip that runs across the illuminated VW badge and above the IQ.Light LED matrix headlight
    • The rear end features an LED tail light cluster with a honeycomb structure and dark light strip
    • Powering the EV is a powerful lithium-ion battery with a range of 620 km and a net energy content of 77 kWh

    • The car is sprayed in a unique two-tone hue with Polar Light Blue Metallic (primary colour) and a contrast black tone on the roof
