The third week of October 2024 ended on a much more exciting note with several showcases, launches, and promotions. We witnessed the launch of highly-anticipated the all-new Mitsubishi Triton along with the new Leapmotor C10 EV and BYD M6 EV. Further, we got confirmation of arrival in several models including Mini Cooper S 5-Door, Jaecoo J7 PHEV, Denza D9, and Jetour Dashing.

Malaysia automotive market: Key launches and updates
GAC GS3 EMZOOM lineup gets CKD model
GAC GS3 EMZOOM range in Malaysia has expanded, thanks to the addition of two new locally-assembled variants - GS3 EMZOOM Standard and GS3 EMZOOM Exclusive. The two new CKD units join the flagship Premium R. All three versions are powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, delivering 177 PS and 270 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7WDCT). The 2024 GAC GS3 EMZOOM CKD models are competitively priced, starting at RM103,800 for the Standard variant, RM116,800 for the Exclusive, and RM126,800 for the Premium R.
Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur 2024 dates out
The 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur returns for its second year. The auto event is set to take place from November 8-10 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and the three-day automotive extravaganza promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever. With over 300 high-performance vehicles on display, including 15 specially imported from Japan, visitors will be treated to a spectacular showcase of some of the best-tuned cars in the industry.
Tickets are priced at RM60 for a single-day entry, with three-day passes available for RM120. Children aged 6-12 can attend for RM30 per day, while younger children and persons with disabilities enjoy special pricing. Additional perks are available with VIP passes, Express Lane tickets, and the exclusive Black Tag Access (priced at RM1,500).
New Mitsubishi 3S Centre in Terengganu
In partnership with its authorized dealer, Lajina Motors Sdn Bhd, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has strengthened its footprint in Terengganu with the opening of a new 3S Centre (Sales, Service & Spare Parts). It is strategically located along the Kota Bharu-Kuala Terengganu route, at Lot 3309-3310, Jalan Padang Luas, Taman Pelangat 2, Jerteh, Terengganu.
Spanning 3,600 square feet, the 3S Centre boasts a modern showroom equipped with a range of customer conveniences, including a cozy lounge with Wi-Fi and a kid's corner, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. Further, it has a fully equipped service area with several service bays, ready to handle the needs of Mitsubishi vehicles in the local community.
Perodua introduces the Aruz Elegant Black edition
Perodua has introduced a new Elegant Black edition for its popular SUV, the Aruz. And as expected, the new colour adds a touch of sophistication to the seven-seater car and is available as an option across all Aruz variants. Everything else remains the same, the same features and specifications that have made the SUV a top choice in Malaysia. As for price, it remains unchanged despite the introduction of the new color. The 1.5 X variant is priced at RM 72,900, while the 1.5 AV comes in at RM 77,900.
Mini Cooper S 5-Door previewed
Mini Malaysia recently previewed the all-new Cooper S 5-door and it was praised for its new and improved specs kit and the impressive extra space it brings along. Set to retail for approximately at RM 293,000, the price with the extended warranty and service package.
Powering the new Mini is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine that generates a maximum power of 204 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The above configuration allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 242 km/h.
BYD M6 EV launched in Malaysia
Sime Darby BYD has officially launched the BYD M6 in Malaysia recently with the MPV joining the brand’s growing EV lineup which includes the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. Offered in two variants - Standard and Extended, each retailing for RM109,800 and RM123,800.
The three-row seven-seater electric MPV is designed to meet the needs of modern families. Some of its key features are - a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay connectivity, a five-inch multi-info display, a Qi wireless charging pad, faux leather upholstery, keyless entry, and a push-button start system.
Kia brings "Fuel-on-Us" campaign
Kia’s sole distributor in Malaysia, Dinamikjaya Motors Sdn Bhd, has launched a new "Fuel-on-Us" campaign for buyers of the Kia Carnival. Running from Oct 1 to Dec 31, 2024, the campaign offers a unique perk: subsidized fuel for the next five years for all new Carnival owners who purchase and register their vehicles during this period.
Interested buyers can reach out to their nearest authorized Kia dealer to learn more about the details of this program and how to take advantage of this limited-time offer.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV is open for ROI
Jaecoo has officially opened the Registration of Interest for the highly-anticipated J7 PHEV in Malaysia. The car targets eco-conscious drivers who want both performance and sustainability. Powering it is a 1.5-litre TGDi engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined 347 PS and 525 Nm of torque. It offers an electric-only range of 88 km which outshines other hybrids in the market. Speaking of which, here it will rival the likes of the Volvo XC60 Recharge and Toyota RAV4 PHEV.
As for the J7 PHEV price in Malaysia, it is yet to be announced, most probably at the car’s official launch.
Denza D9 coming soon to Malaysia
Denza will arrive in early 2025 in Malaysia with its premium MPV, the D9. Available in both electric and plug-in hybrid options, the Denza D9 is designed to rival premium MPVs like the Toyota Alphard, offering top-notch comfort, luxury, and technology. Part of its spec sheet is advanced driver assistance systems, luxurious interiors, and spacious seating, all of which are poised to attract buyers' attention.
All-new Mitsubishi Triton launched
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) officially launched the sixth-generation Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck. Available in five distinct variants - Single, MT, AT GL, AT, and Athlete; their prices range from RM 101,980 to RM 165,980. Powering the all-new Triton is a 2.4-litre Hyperpower 4N16 diesel engine with high-output specifications. terms of safety, selected Triton variants come with Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS), a comprehensive suite of features such as Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and more.
Jetour Dashing coming soon to Malaysia
Jetour will enter Malaysia in the second half of 2024 with its five-seater SUV, the Dashing. Aimed to challenge the likes of Proton X70, upon launch the Jetour Dashing will be offered two variant options - Prime and Signature. Powering it is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering a maximum power of 156 PS (154 hp) and 230 Nm of torque.
Once launched the Dashing will give stiff competition to the likes of the Proton X70 and Honda HR-V.
2025 X70 receives Apple CarPlay via OTA
The national automaker has finally announced the availability of Apple CarPlay connectivity for the owners of the 2025 X70. Thus, making sure Proton maintains its position as the leading premium SUV brand in the country. Starting on 16 October 2024, Proton began rolling out the update to X70 owners in Malaysia, who can then easily download and install the update by following the simple on-screen instructions in their vehicle.
PROTON-Vaganza campaign
Proton is offering a range of promotions under its year-end PROTON-Vaganza campaign starting from 1 October to 31 December 2024. It includes rebates of up to RM7,000 on the purchase of the new X70, added trade-in values of up to RM1,800 at select outlets, a chance to win a Proton S70, cash prizes of up to RM2,500 for test drives, and extra rewards for social media engagement.
All-new Leapmotor C10 EV launched
On October 16, 2024, Stellantis officially introduced the Leapmotor C10 EV in Malaysia. The D-segment five-seater all-electric vehicle enters the market at a time when Malaysia is positioning itself as a hub for EV manufacturing and adoption. The EV is offered in one trim option called Design variant that will retail for RM 149,000 until Nov 30th, 2024, and RM 159,000 afterward.
Global automotive market: Key international launches and updates
All-new 9th-gen Toyota Camry launched in Thailand
Toyota has officially launched the all-new 9th-generation Camry in Thailand. The car is offered in three variant options namely, Smart, Premium, and Premium Luxury with prices starting from THB 1.475 million (around RM 190,000). Powering the new Camry is a hybrid-only powertrain across the lineup, featuring the advanced 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Hybrid system. It also comes equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 across all trims, providing advanced driver assistance features.
First-ever fully electric JCW models introduced
Mini has introduced its first, fully-electric JCW models - the Cooper JCW EV and Aceman JCW EV. Powering both models is a single motor making a maximum power of 258 hp along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. As for acceleration, while the Cooper JCW hits the 0-100 kmph mark in just 5.9 seconds, the Aceman does the same in 6.4 seconds.
Jaecoo J7 PHEV travels 1,300km
Recently the JAECOO J7 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) was put to the test in an ultra-long-range driving marathon; over a 1,300 km* route from Guangzhou to Wuhu, China, without stopping for fuel or to recharge the battery. The multinational contingent (including Malaysia) navigated the car through various environments like national roads, intercity expressways, and traffic congestion during morning rush hour.
