VW once again teases Golf R Mk8, to debut on Nov 4
KUALA LUMPUR: Busy days ahead for the German automaker. As globally, the automaker is preparing for the Golf R Mk8 debut and locally it will be bringing in the Mk8 Golf GTI soon. While the latter is discussed in detail in one of our previous stories, it is the former we are focusing on today.
As per Volkswagen, the Golf R Mk8 will be more dynamic, powerful, and efficient than ever. Speaking of which it will be powered by the tried and tested EA888 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. The said mill will be tuned to its most potent form with the expected output reading over 330 PS and 400 Nm. The power will be sent to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, offered as standard.
Further adding to its driving dynamics is a new 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with selective wheel torque control on the rear axle. The AWD system is managed by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager that's integrated with dynamic chassis control and electronic front differential lock (XDS). Together, the two systems call for neutral handling, optimum traction control, and precise agility.
On the design front, the R Mk8 takes inspiration from the regular Golf and its variants. Like the unique R headlights and blue cabin highlights from the GTI model. The interior remains largely identical to the regular Golf.
With its unveiling taking place in just two days, i.e., on Nov 4th, we expect it to be R Mk8's last teaser. But, one never knows what VW marketing has planned.
