VW Nivus CUV nears debut, might replace the Polo hatch
KUALA LUMPUR: If a recent release from the Volkswagen Brazil division is to be believed, the VW Nivus is not too far from making a debut. In addition to some details about the compact CUV, the automaker also revealed a few pictures of a camouflaged Nivus.
VW South American engineers and designers undertook the development of the Nivus, and the car will be manufactured in Brazil. Also, since it will be built on the continent locally, VW Europen dealers will be able to sell it as well. Brazil will be the first country to get the crack at the VW Nivus, i.e., by June. Other Latin American countries following suit by the end of 2020.
One of the most notable things about this compact crossover is that it will bring coupe-like styling down to one of the cheapest automobile classes. Unlike the conventionally styled cars like Tarek, T-Cross, and Tiguan, the Nivus displays fast rear styling that appears in the Porsche Macan. Also, compared to automaker’s other SUV “coupe”, the Nivus is much smoother and rounder than the sharp Atlas Cross Sport. Giving it an upmarket flair are features like LED taillight, daytime running lamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The VW Nivus is built on the MQB architecture and is powered by a 1.0-liter inline-three, producing 128 hp along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. The power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The upcoming VW CUV displays a footprint similar to the Polo hatch, the Nivus boats 415 liters of cargo room. As for the Polo’s 285 liters of luggage capacity, the Nivus might look more attractive to a family man.
