VW ID.6 makes its first unofficial introduction
KUALA LUMPUR: The Volkswagen ID.6 is the German automaker's upcoming electric crossover that was earlier revealed as a concept - VW ID.Roomzzz. For a long time, we were aware of the model, however, we never got to see it, not as a whole at least. Now, thanks to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology we got to see the car - without camouflage or anything hidden.
The said image was uploaded on the website of the said Chinese Ministry and was discovered by Automotive News China. What's the connection between China and VW ID.6? Well, the VW EV crossover will be produced in China for the local market and will go on sale in the country later this year.
Compared to the recently introduced VW ID.4 crossover, the upcoming ID.6 will be a foot longer and have three rows inside. What else do we know about the ID.6 EV? Taking clues for the spy shots and the uploaded image, the electric crossover gets - a large actual grille, conventional-looking headlights with illuminated panels, and thick black trim along the lower edge. It also features curved metal along the front fenders and rear wheel arches.
What will power the upcoming Chinese-spec VW ID.6?
As per the information posted by the Chinese government website, the VW ID.6 should get at least a 201 hp rear motor, shared by ID.3 and ID.4. Also, expected is an all-wheel-drive configuration that would be possible by adding another front motor, as seen ID.4.
Launch details?
As mentioned, the VW ID.6 will first go on sale in the Chinese market, probably later this year. It might be followed by the EV's arrival in the U.S. market, but since there is no official announcement nothing can be said for sure.
