Volkswagen Malaysia previews 2022 Golf GTI and R-Line
KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia recently previewed the 2022 Golf Mk8 in two variant options - GTI and R-Line. It was only earlier this month that Volkswagen Malaysia opened Golf’s registration of interest page on its website.

The 8th gen Golf as mentioned was previewed in two variant options, both of which are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2022 as CKD locally-assembled units. This will be the first time Golf will be assembled in Pekan. Not to forget, until now GTI has only been produced/assembled either in Germany or China.

2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI
The 2022 VW Golf GTI, the one in red, is powered by the tried and tested 2.0-litre TSI engine now generating maximum power of 245 PS along with a peak torque of 370 Nm. Compared to the regular GTI, that’s an increase of 15 PS and 20 Nm. The power will be sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
On the performance front, the hot hatch completes the century sprint in 6.4 seconds and attains a top speed of 250 kmph.
Mechanical equipment kit includes - MacPherson struts at the front and multi link suspension at the rear, a sports suspension setup, bigger brake discs with red calipers, and an XDS electronic differential lock. The hatch also gets a Vehicle Dynamics Manager Control system that coordinates the function of the XDA and DCC adaptive dampers (optional).
Exterior & interior inclusions - LED Plus headlights, upgraded LED tail lights, 18-inch ‘Richmond; alloy wheels, trademark red stripe on the grille, and lower grille with a honeycomb pattern. On the inside, it gets perforated leather sport seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, touch sensitive controls, and the latest MIB3-powered infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Safety kit - six airbags, ABS, ESP, and ISOFIX points (front passenger seat and rear seat).
2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line
The 2022 Golf R-line, on the other hand, is fueled by a 1.4-litre TSI powerplant making a maximum power of 150 PS along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission unit.
Exterior & interior inclusions - LED Plus headlights, upgraded LED tail lights, namesake sporty styling package, 17-inch ‘Valencia’ alloy wheels, real visible tailpipes. On the inside, it has manual fabric seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, touch sensitive controls, latest MIB3-powered touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
