Volkswagen ID. Life concept previewed at Munich
KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen introduced the ID. Life concept at the ongoing 2021 IAA Munich Motor Show. After the ID.3 and ID.4 EVs, this one comes as the automaker's fresh take on a more compact electric city car.
So, what does this compact, entry-level VW EV look like?
The Volkswagen ID. Life showcases a strikingly clear design language with simple lines and no complex geometry shape. Unlike the current ID. exterior profile, this one showcases circular lighting elements at the front and back.
Special attention has been paid to improve the car's aerodynamic qualities and therefore it misses out on the side door handles and poop-out door handles.
Dimensions? The VW ID. Life concept measures 4,091 mm in length and is 1,845 mm wide. With a ground clearance of 190 mm, it seems like a pretty high city hatch with crossover characteristics.
Moving on, the inside of the VW ID. Life is fairly unique. It comes with a game console and projector with a retractable screen enabling young consumers to transform it into a gaming lounge or cinema for two. It seems like VW has opted for heavy digitalisation to win new, young customers.
Taking care of customers' comfort and well-being, VW ID. Life concept comes with flat-fold rear seats with a total space of 1,285-litres. Furthermore, the car is sustainable too, as the automaker has used natural and recycled materials like sustainable wood on the dash and eco textiles & fabrics on the seats.
The customers might face a small issue in the area of large smartphone storage space. The automaker is smartly placing flexible pouches on the door with a charging function for the same.
On the mechanical front, the VW ID.life is the first in the ID.family to be equipped with front-wheel drive propulsion. And it is based on the smaller VW electric drive matric (MEB) platform.
Its front-mounted motor puts out a maximum power of 234 hp along with a peak torque of 290 Nm. It takes energy from a 57 kWh battery pack with 400 km range.
A 10-minute charge adds 163 km to its driving range and the EV completes the century sprint in 6.9 seconds.
Price? While VW has not revealed the actual price figures, the ID.Life is expected to retail for around EUR 20,0000 - EURO 25,000 (approx. RM 98,000 to RM 123,000).
The VW ID. Life's production will start only in 2025 and will carry the ID.2 tag.
So, what do you think of the VD ID? Life concept? Love it or hate it, but one can't surely ignore this futuristic car.
