Volkswagen ID.4 interior images revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: For a long time now, we have heard enough about the VW ID.4 EV. We have seen the car's images, sketches, and know that it has entered production in Germany. Now, when the vehicle is nearing its global debut, scheduled for September end, VW is giving us a glimpse of its cabin.
VW's new electric SUV cabin has a minimalistic look. It seems inspired by Tesla and other EVs in the market. The German automaker has not given any specifications about ID.4 infotainment or touchscreens; however, the images tell us a lot.
The Volkswagen ID.4 has two screens - one trapezoidal unit sitting behind the steering wheel and the horizontal one placed on the centre stack. The home screen will come with applications for various functions like radio, navigation, battery information, vehicle settings, etc.
Unlike the Tesla Model 3 that has eliminated all physical buttons, channelling all the functions via the centre screen, the ID.4 comes with its fair share of buttons. We can see a row of buttons below the touchscreen for climate control, emergency braking, and other functions in the images. Also, a panel of buttons is situated on the left side of the steering wheel, which also comes with its share of controls - audio, call, etc.
One of the highlighting features of the latest VW EV is the ‘ID.Light’. This lighting scheme consists of a light strip that runs through the entire windscreen's entire length and changes colour to signal incoming calls, prompt navigation signals, locked doors, etc.
Here are some additional info on VW ID.4's cabin -
- Compared to other models in the segment, the ID.4 will offer a more spacious cabin, thanks to its compact electric powertrain, and new MEB platform
- The door handles are flush with the body and feature an electric unlocking system
- Like a conventional SUV, it comes with large door openings, high seating position, and spacious rear bench
- The EV also offers a big boot that measures 543-litres with rear seats up
- The front seats are said to be super comfy and sporty
Like all the auto enthusiasts, we are excited about the ID.4, VW's second ID after ID.3 hatch. With the global debut happening by the end of this month, the EVs first-set of deliveries is set to occur before 2020 closes.
