VW Dieselgate Update: Latest 1.6L, 2.0L EA288 Diesel Engines Have No Diesel Emissions Cheating Devices
Kuala Lumpur: Following the latest Reuters's report which claimed that Volkswagen has mounted 'several' diesel emissions cheating devices on its latest 1.6L, 2.0L EA288 Diesel Engines, the German automaker has confirmed that its newer range of 1.6L, 2.0L EA288 Diesel Engines have no diesel emissions cheating devices.
In an official statement, Volkswagen announces, “no software constituting an improper defeat device as defined in law is installed in vehicles with EA 288 EU5 and EU6-engines in the European Union. Volkswagen AG is systematically reviewing this issue worldwide. The group strives for a holistic solution for complying with the respective valid standards.”
Earlier, Volkswagen Dieselgate, which affected nearly 11 million vehicles equipped with EA 189 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine, was again in headlines, thanks to a Reuters' report which claimed that the German automaker has mounted a better version of diesel emission cheating devices on its latest range of 1.6L and 2.0L EA288 diesel engines as well. The concerned diesel engines were featured in Volkswagen latest car models like Mk7 Golf, new Tiguan and next-gen Jetta.

After the revelation made by the aforesaid Reuters' report, Volkswagen stopped sales of all vehicles equipped with the concerned EA 189 diesel engines. Now the German automaker has cleared its latest 1.6L, 2.0L EA288 Diesel Engines claiming that they aren't equipped with the same diesel emissions cheating devices as on the EA189 2.0L EU5-compliant diesel engines. But the announcement from Volkswagen doesn't clear the situation in U.S., where the automaker has issued a stop-sale order of all 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles throughout the country, including those which don't feature the infamous emission cheating device-equipped EA189 engine. Volkswagen has also withdrawn its emissions certification application for its newer diesel-powered (EA 288-equipped) vehicle to Environmental Pollution Agency (EPA).
