Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Cheating Devices May Also Affect Its Latest 1.6L and 2.0L EA288 Diesel Engines

Kuala Lumpur: While Volkswagen is still trying to resolve 11 million vehicles affected from its diesel emissions cheating devices, a new Reuters' report suggests that the German automaker has mounted 'several' diesel emission cheating devices also for its latest 1.6L and 2.0L EA288 diesel engines used by its latest-generation MQB platform-based vehicles like Mk7 Golf, new Tiguan and next-gen Jetta.

Earlier, the diesel emission cheating devices used to pass 'emissions tests' were only confirmed to be mounted on the vehicles that were equipped with the EA189 2.0L EU5-compliant diesel engine. According to Reuters, the new report is based on the information provided three unnamed sources including a Volkswagen Manager and a U.S. Official who are close to the current investigation.

The new revelation will only add more to the troubles of Volkswagen and now the German automaker would have to reconfigure the software for each generation of engines. Doubtfully, Volkswagen America has withdrawn its emissions certification application to Environmental Pollution Agency (EPA). It has also issued a stop-sale order of its 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles throughout the country, including those which don't feature the infamous emission cheating device-equipped EA189 engine.

On the basis of all above-mentioned reports, it can be predicted that the German automaker has mounted a better version of emission cheating devices even on its latest 1.6L and 2.0L EA288 engines. As of now, Volkswagen has put the blame of its emissions cheating devices on a few software engineers but should the claims made by Reuters reports be true, there could be many more Volkswagen employees deliberately involved in the development of 'several' diesel emissions cheating devices, thus affecting the total amount of potential fines and the severity of management changes, needed at Volkswagen.
