Volkswagen debuts 2021 Golf Variant and Alltrack models
KUALA LUMPUR: The VW Golf lineup keeps on stretching. In addition to the standard hatch, performance-oriented GTI, and hybrid trim, the German automaker has now introduced two new models - Variant and Alltrack.
Yes, we are talking about the extended roof version Golf designed for customers who aren't interested in SUVs - with the latest-gen Golf models designed to offer more space for transporting cargo, people, children, or enjoying a road trip.
The Golf Variant is longer than before, and the wheelbase has also been increased. Factually speaking, it is 4,630 mm in length (304.8 mm more) and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm (25.4 mm more). This leads to more legroom, which in turn means more comfort for the passengers. The width and height remain the same as the 5-door version.
The boot space is comparatively bigger. With the rear seats in place, the trunk capacity measures 611-litre, and with the seats folded it expands to 1,642-litre. One also finds fastening rings and bag hooks along with two power sockets (12V and 230V), in the trunk. Like most modern cars, it too comes with a hands-free boot function, of course, the car key needs to be near.
Talking about the car's design, the slightly marked shoulders, bumper volume, and rear spoiler give it a sporty appearance, it increases if you opt for the R-Line trim. From the side profile, it looks like a coupe due to the 3rd window design. It looks like the roofline is low; however, the headroom is quite optimum.
Under the hood, the Golf Variant is offered with the same engine options as the standard Golf.
As for the Golf Alltrack mode, it will accompany the Variant. However, of the two, it will offer more ground clearance and will feature VW's 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard. It will feature outdoor-lifestyle aesthetics and will provide a customisable cabin. Further, depending on the engine choice, it can tow up to 2,000 kg.
The Golf Variant and Alltrack will be launched later this year in the European market, followed by other markets.
