Volkswagen celebrates 25 years of Polo GTI in style

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the Polo GTI has completed 25 years in the auto industry and to celebrate the occasion Volkswagen has introduced Polo GTI Edition 25.

Available exclusively in Germany from June 1, the special-edition Polo GTI is priced at €35,205 (RM172,000) and is limited to just 2,500 units.

Imelda Labbé, a Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales said, “Volkswagen has a rich heritage and the Polo is one of our most iconic vehicles. GTI fans are very important to us and our anniversary model is a way of marking this milestone together with them: celebrating 25 years of power, performance, sportiness, and fun driving in the Polo class.”

Let us get to know the Polo GTI Edition 25 in detail -

• Based on the ongoing 152 kW Polo GTI, the special edition features sports suspension, an array of standard features, electronic differential lock XDS, and special design highlights
• Powering it is a 2.0-litre TSI engine making a maximum power output of 207 PS along with a peak torque of 320 Nm. The drive propels to the front wheels of the car
• The limited edition Polo GTI can complete a century sprint in just 6.5 seconds

• Adding to its driving dynamics is - a specially tuned sports suspension which lowers the body by 15 mm along with improved traction and precise handling
• Adding to the car’s aesthetics is the classic GTI look which is accompanied by a honeycomb grille, chrome tailpipes, and red brake calipers. Also, part of the kit are several black elements like glossy 18-inch Adelaide alloy wheels, exterior mirror, and roof
• The sill panel features ‘One of 2500’ logo mining owner of the car’s limited edition nature

• The cabin is equally sporty as the exterior with inclusions like premium sport seats finished in perforated black-red leather with GTI logos stitching along with glossy black decorative trims with red GTI lettering
• Other standard features include - IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with Dynamic Light Assist, LED daytime running lights, and multifunction sports steering wheel with paddles and ‘25’ logo, Ready2Discover Infotainment System with 20-inch display

• The optional Travel Assist system is part of the car’s IQ.Drive assist package and can take over the car’s steering, braking, and acceleration
• Color options: Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, and new Ascot Grey

The VW Polo GTI Edition 25 will be manufactured in the Kariega, South Africa located plant which is the largest car plant in the continent and opened back in 1951.
