Volkswagen and PichaEats together delivered meals to welfare homes and COVID frontliners
KUALA LUMPUR: As an effort to drive happiness this festive season, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) teamed up with the PichaEats, a Malaysian social enterprise, for a ‘Driving Kindness’ campaign. Under this project, the companies together delivered a total of 280 meals to the less fortunate ones over the weekend.
The recipients of these meals were the Hiichiikok Foundation, Trinity Community Children’s Home, Lighthouse Children’s Welfare Home, Sunteck Handicap Welfare Home, and Charis Sheep Pen Shelter, all of which are located in Klang Valley. The campaign also lent its support to the COVID-19 frontliners by delivering a total of 100 meals to the doctors, and nurses working at the testing station at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
The “Driving Kindness” convoy included a Tiguan Allspace Highline, a Passat Elegance, and four classic VW cars – two Beetles and two Kombi vans, all decked up in Christmas decor. These were driven by their owners who had volunteered to make this campaign happen.
Five deserving families and individuals were also presented with a PichaEats Christmas Family set, who have been chosen through a Facebook contest held from November 25 to 30, calling netizens to nominate those who are going through tough times and deserved a special meal.
Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM, also participated in the convoy and expressed his gratitude on the success of the campaign. He said, “Christmas is the season of giving, and it is a privilege to be able to give back to the community and to the less fortunate. The year has been extremely challenging for everyone, and it is so important to stay connected, be kind, and to give back whenever possible.”
“The Volkswagen group has been committed to aiding refugees via numerous social platforms since 2015, and here we are honoured to partner with the charismatic team at PichaEats, who are doing an amazing job creating opportunities for refugees in Malaysia.”
According to Kim Lim, the CEO and co-founder of PichaEats, the project was a clear reflection of the company’s mission to drive kindness. He added, “At PichaEats, we are all about making an impact. For this Christmas and year end season, we especially wanted to emphasise the idea of bringing joy and spreading kindness to the community at large. It was a pleasure working with Volkswagen Malaysia to realise this, who were all-in for putting a smile on the faces of those who needed some good cheer.”
As mentioned earlier, PichaEats is a social enterprise, which is committed to empowering the refugee community in the country through its food business. It has served around 250,000 meals cooked by the refugee chefs. With every meal ordered, 50% of sales goes to the chefs, and with the other 50%, the company covers up its operation costs, logistics, and packaging.
