Such acquisitions of major game changers is not an easy task as every employee generates bond and trust with the organization he is associated with. However, in the case of Volkswagen it was pretty much evident that the company is in need of someone with the authority to polish up the image. Thus, Volkswagen Group chairman Hans Dieter Pötsch made a request to Dr. Manfred Bischoff, chairman of Daimler AG which involved the early termination of Dr. Christine’s original contract.
Bloomberg Business reported that the Daimler agreed to the deal “in the interests of the good corporate governance of the German automotive industry.” It is considered as a landmark decision, considering the fierce competence between Mercedes-Benz unit with Volkswagen Group’s other luxury marque, Audi.
Hans made an official statement citing that, “We are delighted that Dr. Hohmann-Dennhardt has agreed to take on this responsible task and that we can build on her outstanding competence and experience. At the same time, we would like to thank Daimler AG for agreeing to our request to the early termination of Dr. Hohmann-Dennhardt’s contract.”
