US-spec 2023 Honda HR-V full details out
The latest US-spec 2023 Honda HR-V, which has no connection with the third-gen HR-V version available in the global markets or the one we are waiting for, has now been revealed in full. Earlier in April, the Japanese automaker detailed the SUV's exterior highlights only, but now the engine and interior specs, along with pricing, are out in the open. So, let's know this American HR-V in detail, starting with the engine.

The US-spec HR-V price starts at $24,895 (approx RM 109,394) and goes all the way up to $30,195 (RM 132,680).Engine specifications
Based on the Honda Global Architecture that also underpins the new eleventh-gen Civic, the US-spec benefits from a bigger and more responsive engine compared to the outgoing unit. That's a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four mill which kicks out a maximum power output of 160 PS (+17 PS) and a peak torque of 187 Nm (+15 Nm).
The power is sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission, which has also been refined with G-Design programming and 'Step-Shift' tech.
The global-spec HR-V, on the other hand, comes with multiple engine options, including a VTEC Turbo engine making 177 PS and 240 Nm, a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit with 121 PS and 145 Nm and a hybrid mill with a combined system output of 215 PS.
Ride and handling
With the new platform comes an independent rear suspension setup that promises improved drivability compared to the predecessor. The longer wheelbase further helps in improving stability, while the larger brakes ensure better stopping power.
An option of upgrading the front-wheel-drive to all-wheel-drive is also on offer at an additional cost. Honda explains the new AWD can be configured on the console and can send more power to the rear wheels on slippery surfaces. Both the drive systems feature the Hill Descent Control, which lets the driver opt for a constant downhill speed ranging between 3 kmph and 19 kmph.
Interior
Inside the new American HR-V, a few things look inspired by the new Civic, including the placement of the infotainment screen on the hollowed-out section of the dashboard, the mesh-covered strip of the air vents rotary heating controls. Other significant interior inclusions are -
- 7.0-inch LCD instrument display with physical gauges and programmable features.
- 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with physical button controls and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard. The higher trims come with a 9.0-inch display coupled with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Wireless charging pad
- Eight speakers
- Trick Magic Seats
Dimensions
Against the measuring tape, the US-spec HR-V is 4567 mm in length, 1839 mm in width, 1610 mm in height, and has a 2654 mm long wheelbase. Compared to the global version, it is 232 mm longer, 49 mm wider, 20 mm taller, and has a 44 mm longer wheelbase.
The boot space measures 690 litres, expandable up to 1560 litres, with the second-row seats folded flat.
Exterior design
Moving to the exterior design of this entirely different HR-V, which was revealed back in April. The SUV flaunts an overall classy design, combining a large octagonal front grille, slim LED headlights, a wide mesh pattern on the lower front, a long bonnet, sleeker tail lights and a steeper boot lid. The rear door handles are positioned at the side of the body, unlike the global HR-V.
Safety
The 2023 US-spec HR-V is packed with the latest Honda's active safety suite, upgraded with traffic jam assist, street sign recognition and a more realistic behaviour for the lane-keep systems and adaptive cruise control. Unlike the outgoing model, Honda Sensing is a standard fitment on all the new HR-V variants. Also, part of the safety kit is blind-spot monitoring and 10 airbags as standard.
Price
In North America, Honda offers the new HR-V in three variants with FWD and AWD drive systems as options. The price starts at $24,895 (approx RM 109,394) and goes all the way up to $30,195 (RM 132,680). The mentioned prices include a $1,245 (RM 5,470) destination fee.
That's all about this different HR-V exclusively available for the US market. However, it is speculated that Honda may launch this SUV as the ZR-V for the rest of the world. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments.
