Upcoming Audi RS3 to come with a special drift mode
KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier this month, Audi released the first teaser images of the all-new RS3 hatchback and sedan, in which the duo were seen in the production-ready form. And, now here comes another set of images with a sneak peek into its major component.
Starting with the powertrain, Audi confirmed that the new RS3 will continue to get the power from the 2.5 litre inline-five engine that churns out a maximum power of 400 PS from 5,600 to 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 500 Nm from 2,250 to 5,600 rpm. The engine is slightly re-tuned to deliver 20 Nm more torque than the predecessor. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is mated to the engine as standard, and a Launch Control function is also added to the kit this time.
In terms of performance, the hot RS3 can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in mere 3.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the older model. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph, which can be raised to 280 kmph, or 290 kmph by opting for the RS Dynamic package with ceramic brakes.
Well, this is not the most exciting about the upcoming Audi RS3. The company revealed that It is the first Audi model that gets an RS Torque Splitter. This is a newly developed fully variable torque vectoring that replaces the rear differential and electronically controlled clutches on each half shaft. It handles torque vectoring and transmits power to the ground as per cornering scenarios. The new system also enables the car to perform controlled drifts in the new RS Torque Rear driving mode.
Audi engineers have also tuned the car’s Electronic Stabilization Control for the new Torque Splitter. As for suspension, the kit gets new shock absorbers and upgraded adaptive dampers. For the new RS3, Audi also offers Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slicks for the first time.
About the looks, we still do not have much in hand because of intricate camouflage masking most of the car’s styling. But, it seems we do not need to wait long for that as the car is expected to make a debut soon.
