Upcoming all-electric VW Trinity to be built at a new $2.2 billion plant

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming all-electric Trinity is Volkswagen’s flagship model that was first announced in 2021. It will spearhead the brand’s next generation of zero-emission cars and will be manufactured at a new plant.

Speaking of which, VW’s new factory will be built near the automaker’s existing Wolfsburg plant. It is for a fact by far the largest modernisation program in the history of VW’s main location. A total investment of around $2.2 billion is on the cards.

Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter said,"The decision by the Supervisory Board is an important milestone for the transformation of our brand and the future of the Wolfsburg production facility. We are thus strengthening and sustaining the competitiveness of the main plant and giving the workforce a robust long-term perspective.”

He further added, "We are setting benchmarks in the automotive industry with Trinity and the new factory and turning Wolfsburg into the global lighthouse for cutting-edge and efficient vehicle production. This reaffirms that the economic transformation of Germany as a center of industry can be achieved."

VW will commence the construction of the new plant as early as 2023, all while taking into account building and environmental law. Meaning the new site will meet high environmental standards.

As for Trinity’s production, the first model will roll off the assembly line in 2026 and it is said to be manufactured using the most innovative methods. Thus becoming an example for all the other VW manufacturing sites globally.

Also, the target production time at the new plant is ten hours per car.

At the time of its launch, the Trinity would be ready for Level 4 autonomous driving, will have a short charging time, and a range of over 700 kilometre.
