KUALA LUMPUR: In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, UMW Toyota has launched the 23rd edition of Toyota Eco Youth (TEY). It is a yearly nationwide programme that is focused on teaching young people about environmental issues. Through this initiative, the automaker aims to actively engage young individuals in developing sustainable environmental solutions.

The key highlights of the 2024 Toyota Eco Youth Programme are -

• The programme targets students aged 13 to 17 from 16 schools nationwide.
• Participants will attend an intensive workshop on Toyota's 8 Steps Problem Solving Method (PSM), focusing on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• The program encourages students to come up with creative solutions, offering them cash prizes of up to RM 80,000 

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, remarked, “The Toyota Eco Youth program is aligned with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, aiming for carbon neutrality and a significant positive environmental impact among high school students and teachers. Additionally, we strive to ensure the sustainability of every school project beyond the conclusion of this year’s program.”

Started in 2001, the Toyota Eco Youth Programme is part of UMW Toyota’s efforts to protect the environment through corporate social responsibility. Over 23 years, it has involved more than 300,000 students from 521 schools and nearby communities, raising awareness about environmental issues.

Through such programmes, the company is working towards a cleaner, greener future aligned with Toyota's goal of achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
