Toyota unveils two futuristic BEV concepts - FT-Se and FT-3e 

KUALA LUMPUR: At the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2023, Toyota unveiled two futuristic-looking BEV concepts - the FT-Se and the FT-3e. The Toyota FT-Se is a ​​high-performance electric sports car while the Toyota FT-3e is a next-gen concept EV crossover. 

Let’s know about these concept electric cars in detail, starting with the Toyota FT-Se.

Toyota FT-Se concept

The FT-Se is a GR86-sized two-door sports car reminiscent of the GR Sports Car Concept previewed back in 2021. It features a huge lower grille on the front along with cooling vents positioned near the headlights. The unique daytime running lights stretch vertically from the headlights to the front lip of the vehicle. On the sides, we can spot small mirrors, flush door handles, and a set of 20-inch wheels. 

The EV boasts an extremely dramatic rear look with its tail lights incorporating a horn-like design mated to a ducktail spoiler. The interior of the concept vehicle looks minimalist with a race car-like driver-focused cockpit trimmed in blue and black. No details are yet available on the drivetrain of Toyota’s new electric sports car.

Toyota FT-3e concept

The Toyota FT-3e is a next-gen electric crossover that offers “new driving experiences and personalised services powered by innovative technologies.” On the front doors of the car, external digital screens are positioned, which display indicators for battery charge, interior air quality, and onboard temperature when the driver approaches the car. 

The EV lacks rear door handles as a touch-based operation is provided for opening and closing the doors. In terms of size, the EV seems identical to the Toyota bZ4X, and it is equipped with 22-inch wheels.

Inside the Toyota FT-3e concept, lots of screens are available; one for the digital instrument cluster, one for the infotainment unit, one on the upper section of the dashboard, one for the rearview camera, two on the steering wheel, and another two for the side view cameras.

While presenting new EV concepts, Toyota President and CEO, Koji Sato said, “I know, you will find your future among Toyota’s cars. Today I’m going to talk about 3 future car stories that are driven by mobility. The 1st story is about our future life with BEV. They are not only eco-friendly. Electric cars also offer their own flavour of driving fun and automotive seasoning, and they can deliver diverse experience value. This is our vision for BEVs.”

“We are making BEVs like only a true carmaker can. This means revisiting the fundamental principles of car making. And delivering basic performance like driving range as well as value that only BEVs can offer. One example is making cars with both a low centre of gravity and a spacious interior, which was not possible in the past.”
