Toyota RAV4 global sales reached 10 million units
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular models in Toyota’s lineup since its introduction back in 1994. The worldwide popularity of the Japanese SUV is indicated by its global sales numbers. Over five generations in the past 26 years, its sales has passed the landmark of 10 million units.
In 2019 alone, the firm sold more than 965,000 units which comprise almost 10 percent of the entire cumulative sales. Due to this big number, the tally achieved eight-figures and reached 10,080,834 by the end of February 2020. Toyota says this has brought the prestigious tags for the RAV4 - world’s best-selling crossover and a fourth-best selling passenger vehicle.
According to the firm, “As a global Toyota model, the RAV4 has gone from strength to strength since its launch. Having originated the market segment for new kind of compact, agile, recreational SUV, it has continued to set standards, with sales reaching new heights.”
So far, North America is the strongest market, contributing more than half a million annual sales, followed by Europe and China. Now with the launch of new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, the firm is ready to mark an important evolution. It will have a greater potential for all-electric driving with zero fuel consumption and zero emissions.
With the increasing sales numbers, the RAV4 is slowly inching towards the list of best selling vehicles ever made. But despite the surging figures, it is unlikely to beat the sales chart of best-selling Toyota Corolla in the near future.
Moreover, the world is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic this time. Countries are locked down, dealerships are closed and production has been suspended to control the spread of the virus. So this situation also raises a question mark on the forthcoming sales of the vehicles.
