Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series production to end with a final Horizon special edition
KUALA LUMPUR: As a sophisticated blend of off-road prowess, on-road comfort, and unparalleled refinement, the Toyota Land Cruiser enjoys a loyal fanbase around the world for the last 60 years. Talking particularly about the Australian market, the model received an exclusive limited-edition avatar earlier this year on the occasion of the 60th anniversary in the country. Dubbed as‘’Land Cruiser Sahara Horizon’, the version was based on the range-topping LC200 Sahara with a limited production of just 400 units.
Now the LandCruiser is again making the headlines and this time it is for the 2021 Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series Horizon, which is expected to hit the Australian showrooms in early 2021 as a final edition before the launch of the next-generation 300 Series. According to the sources, it is confirmed that the upcoming 2021 iteration will once again take the flagship Sahara as the base, but whether it would be identical to the previously released Sahara Horizon limited edition or it would get subtle changes for 2021, is not clear at this moment.
Priced at AUD 129,090 (RM 390,582), the former Land Cruiser limited-edition received bespoke updates on the outside, including a unique grille with a dark finish, black headlights, and smoked chrome front fog light surrounds. Inside, it is equipped with semi-aniline leather-accented seats with "LandCruiser" embossed into the backrest, black leather-accented heated steering wheel, unique door trim, headliner with chrome accents, Horizon badging, and so on.
Other equipment included moonroof, four-zone climate control, satellite navigation, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a premium audio system, and the Toyota Safety Sense driver assist package.
Under the bonnet lies a 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel that generates 273 PS of maximum power and 650 Nm of peak torque, sending to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
For the next-generation Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, there are widespread speculations that the turbodiesel V8 will be replaced by a turbodiesel V6, however, the automaker remains tight-lipped on this. The model is expected to enter production in the middle of 2021, once the 200 Series goes out of production with the 200 Series Horizon final edition.
