Toyota introduces all-new Alphard and Vellfire in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: While UMW Toyota is busy launching the all-new Innova Zenix in Malaysia, in its homeland the automaker has introduced the next generation of its luxury twins, the Alphard and Vellfire. Here, we’ll be discussing the latter duo in detail, so let’s get started.

Variants

The next-generation Toyota Alphard is available in three trim options -

• Z
• Executive Lounge
• Welcab

The Vellfire, on the other hand, is offered in two trim options -

• Z Premier
• Executive Lounge

Platform

Both the MPVs are built on the GA-K version of Toyota’s TNGA platform which has been optimized for the new vehicles.

Dimensions

Both the luxury MPVs measure the same -

Length	4,995 mm
Width	1,850 mm
Height	1,935 mm or 1,945 mm
Wheelbase	3,000 mm

The car's dimensions make sure they conform to the size constraints of the automated parking system.

 

Exterior

This time around Toyota has made an effort to help onlookers differentiate easily between the Alphard and Vellfire.

The new Alphard features the following on the outside -

• Massive grille with black and chrome plates
• LED headlamps
• Dashed-patterned LED DRLs

The Vellfire, on the other hand, gets the following exterior elements -

• Massive grille with chrome slats
• LED headlamps
• A series of black elements

Interior

The all-new fourth-generation Toyota Alphard and Vellfire gains several modern and minimalist cabin gears. Part of the setup is -

• A digital instrument cluster
• Central display
• Touch-based climate control
• Redesigned gear selector
• Electronic parking brake with auto brake hold function
• 2nd row with captain seats
• Universal Steps (on both left- and right-hand-side sliding doors)
• Moonroof with independently operable right and left-side shades
• Toyota’s first-ever pull-down side sunshades

The Executive Lounge variants benefit from several ‘exclusive’ features, including

• A retractable table
• Captain seats with heating and ventilating functions
• A detachable control panel (to control media playback, climate control settings, and also the sunshade)

Powertrain

The fourth-gen Toyota Alphard and Vellfire are offered with a choice of three engine options, depending on the variant chosen. The list includes -

Naturally-aspirated (NA) petrol	2.5-litre NA petrol engine making 182 hp and 235 Nm	Super CVT-i transmission	FWD or AWD system
Turbocharged petrol	2.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder making 279 hp and 430 Nm	8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission	FWD and AWD options
Petrol hybrid	2.5-litre 4-cylinder Dynamic Force engine (190 hp & 236 Nm) and a 5 NM electric motor System output: 250 hp	E-CVT	FWD and AWD options

Safety

Both the 2023 Toyota Alphard and Vellfire are fitted with the Toyota Safety Sense suite with proactive driving assist & intra-lane steering assist, as well as deceleration assist.

Also part of the setup is the Advanced Drive system and Toyota Teammate. The latter comes as standard with the Executive Lounge hybrid variants and as optional with the Z and Z Premier variants.

UMW Toyota Motor brought in the third-gen Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. As for the arrival of the next-generation models, only time will tell whether or not the luxury MPVs enter the local shore.
