Toyota GRMN 86 to be Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon
Kuala Lumpur: Initially unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota GRMN 86 is all set to make a debut at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. Under the supervision of Toyota’s Motorsports Division Gazoo Racing, the car will soon hit the production floors. Earlier Toyota GT-86 also received much acclaim across the globe and to carry on the same success, its limited edition is being released in the form of GRMN 86. Limited to just 100 units, this car may get many technical and design updates along with a price tag of $53,800 USD. It appears that the Japanese carmaker has been working hard on the performance division of the company, as this news comes soon after the launch of Toyota GT-86 blackline limited edition in Australia.
Under the hood, Toyota GRMN 86 is integrated with a more powerful engine than the Toyota GT-86. It is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine which churns out a maximum power of 219 PS along with a peak torque of 217 Nm unlike the older output figures of 200 PS and 205 Nm. Further, this engine would be mated with a closer-ratio six-speed manual transmission which sends power to its rear wheels. Moreover, it also gets a new exhaust system along with low-friction internals.
Moving towards the exterior, its aerodynamic body gets a new front splitter and large race-spec rear wing that adds downforce during high speeds. Further, its carbon-fibre hood, roof, trunk and plexiglass windows reduces the curb weight by 20 kg. This car is anchored with 17-inch RAYS alloy wheels surrounded by Bridgestone Potenza rubbers which provide a better grip on the road. Moreover, the upgrades also include a retuned suspension along with new ventilated braking system. Moving inside, it gets Recaro bucket seats which are designed with Alcantara and GRMN badges. Toyota has also striped off its rear seats as a weight saving measure.
