Toyota Expands Airbag Recall; 29,985 Malaysian Vehicles Affected
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) had earlier announced a global recall to fix a faulty airbag inflater on certain models. The manufacturer has now extended its recall over a larger batch of vehicles, that has encapsulated 29,985 vehicles from Malaysia.
UMW Toyota today confirmed an expansion to their Special Service Campaign in Malaysia. Affected models include Vios, Altis and Yaris, that were manufactured between April 2007 and December 2008.
This expansion comes after the Japanese automaker performed similar drives on 11th April 2013 and 13th May 2015.
In an official statement released today, the Manufacturer claimed that this recall program is to ensure the customer's confidence and peace of mind, under which customer's of the affected vehicles will be contacted to carry out any corrective action. If a recalled model is found to be equipped with an affected inflater, it will be replaced with a newly manufactured one at no extra cost.
UMW Toyota has further ensured that no other model manufactured after December 2008 is affected by the inflater issue. The company has also released a Toll Free Line (1-800-8-869-682) where customers can call for any information.
