Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid: A car with strong safety shield
After being in the news for at least a year, Toyota Malaysia finally launched the Corolla Cross Hybrid in the country. In the model lineup, this new petrol-electric crossover is positioned on the top of the now revised CKD Corolla Cross.
Before discussing Corolla Cross Hybrid safety specs, let's first get to know the crossover a little better.
Priced at RM 136,550 on-the-road insurance, the figure includes sale and service tax exemption and a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, an eight-year, unlimited-mileage battery warranty that can be extended by two years for RM 2,950.
The hybrid model is powered by a 1.8-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder mill pumping a maximum power of 98 PS at 5,200 rpm along with a peak torque of 142 Nm at 3,600 rpm. The e-motor and a nickel-metal battery mated to the mill makes 72 PS and 163 Nm. The total system output comes out to be 122 PS and it is sent to the front wheels.
Other highlighting features -
- Better acceleration time; 0-50 kmph in 2.1 sec, 0-80 kmph in 1.7 sec, and 0-100 kmph in 0.9 sec
- Six decibels quieter cabin during full-throttle acceleration compared to petrol trim
- Fuel consumption is 23.3 kmpl
- Exterior and interior features largely remain the same as the petrol variant with a few additions like dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a 7-inch digital instrument display

It will record your journey and comes in handy when evidence is needed

Complete protection of the driver and passengers is guaranteed with seven airbags
Hill-Start Assist Control:
It prevents the vehicle from rolling on an incline
Vehicle Stability Control (VHC) with Traction Control (TRC):
Prevent side skids and stabilise the vehicle when turning on a curve. TRC, on the other hand, slows the engine or applies the brake to regulate spinning
Tyre Pressure Warning System:
Get a notification whenever the Tyre Pressure in the car is low
