Toyota CH-R Concept Updated for Frankfurt, Production Version Coming Soon

Kuala Lumpur: Toyota has surprised Frankfurt show-goers with the unveiling of its C-HR Concept. The automaker has also revealed that its production version is in the pipeline and would be previewed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Toyota claims that it will go on sale in the middle of 2016 just after a Geneva production debut. This concept is an update to the previous version which was unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Designed to compete with Nissan Juke, this car has grown from a three-door into a five-door body style and utilises the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform which is described as a 'integrated development program for vehicle platforms and powertrain concepts'. With TNGA platform, Toyota aims to reduce weight, increase rigidity and improve efficiency. It is also expected to feature a new full-hybrid powertrain which would offer a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as compared to Toyota's current hybrid system.

The new version of this concept looks less wild than the original CH-R concept. It has got a diamond shaped design language along with aggressive front end and angular rear end. One can also notice revised headlamps and 21-inch alloy wheels along with a gloss black roof. Moving towards the side profile, it has received aggressive wheel arches and prominent character lines.

Advancements can be noticed in all three key components namely electric motor, battery and petrol engine. Technical specs are not released yet, but Toyota claims that the petrol engine has a thermal efficiency of 40%. This concept is the tangible application of Toyota's new Global Vision thinking which was first advocated by president Akio Toyoda in 2011.
