Toyota celebrates 70 years of Land Cruiser with a new special edition model
KUALA LUMPUR: It's been 70 years since the arrival of the bold and powerful Land Cruiser and such a milestone deserves a memorable celebration. And so, Toyota has introduced the 70th Anniversary Edition Land Cruiser Prado, a model that was only introduced in 1984.
This Japan-limited 70th anniversary Toyota Prado showcases blacked-out details on the outside, including the front grille, ORVM, roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the five exterior hues perfectly complement the blacked-out trim. The choices include a dark green, white, and other hues.
Open the doors and the special edition model will greet you with a new silver-painted passenger side dashboard trim, and luxurious Saddle Tongue brown leather upholstery. As a constant reminder of its special edition nature, the vehicle comes with 70th Anniversary embossed floor mats (costs extra).
The customers can opt for either a seven- or five-seat configuration model.
What powers the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 70th Anniversary Edition?
The special edition model is available in two powertrain options - a 204hp/500Nm 2.8-litre turbo diesel unit and a 2.7-litre petrol engine making 161 hp and 246 Nm of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
What the future holds for Toyota Land Cruiser Prado?
Toyota is under plans to introduce a replacement of the Land Cruiser Prado and so the 70th Anniversary model can be the last hurrah after years of service. The brand-new model is said to be built on the new TNGA-F body-on-frame platform.
As for the next-gen Land Cruiser, it is supposed to ditch the conventional powertrain and opt for electrification.
In Japan, the Toyota Land Cruiser 70th Anniversary special edition is priced at JPY 4,290,000 (approximately RM 160,000).
